Antonio Conte is the favourite to become the new Real Madrid manager with Julen Lopetegui set to be sacked after the 5-1 defeat by Barcelona on Sunday.

The Italian, who left Chelsea in the summer after two years at Stamford Bridge, is keen to take the job and held talks with the Real Madrid president, Florentino Pérez, on Sunday.

The 49-year-old has a legal dispute to settle with Chelsea and, if that proves a stumbling block, Real are likely to turn to Santiago Solari.

Real, however, remain confident that Conte will be in a position to accept the job and hope to announce the change of manager as soon as Monday. Lopetegui, who replaced Zinedine Zidane in the summer, had been expected to be relieved of his duties last week after a home defeat to Levante but earned a stay of execution to oversee a narrow 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Tuesday.

His days were numbered, however, and the painful defeat at Camp Nou on Sunday left his team in ninth place, seven points behind Barcelona. Lopetegui, who was forced to leave his job as Spain manager in the summer after news of his deal with Real Madrid came through, tried to put a brave face on after the game against Barcelona, saying: “I’m sad, it’s a tough blow, but I have strength to continue and the belief that things will improve.”

Luis Suárez scored a hat-trick for Barcelona with Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal also getting on the scoresheet.

Chelsea monitoring Antonio Conte's next move before agreeing terms of former manager's severance pay

Chelsea are carefully watching Antonio Conte’s next move with the Italian’s compensation bill yet to be agreed and uncertainty hanging over the managerial positions at three of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Conte has already been linked to both the Manchester United and Real Madrid jobs, while he is also a potential target for Bayern Munich following the German club’s poor start to the season.

Chelsea sacked Conte three months ago, but are yet to reach an agreement with their former head coach over his severance.

Under the terms of the final year of his contract, the 49-year-old would be due over £9 million but Chelsea have tried to argue that he contributed to his own dismissal and are reluctant to agree to a full pay-out.

The matter could go to court if both sides refuse to back down, but the impasse may also be impacted by whether or not United see Conte as a potential mid-season successor to under-pressure Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho’s job was saved by United’s second-half fightback against Newcastle United, but the Portuguese wants public backing from the club’s owners and must take his team to Chelsea after the international break.

Under the terms of his Chelsea deal, Conte would forgo any compensation owed to him from the time he took over at another English club but that is not thought to apply if he goes overseas.

That means taking the United job before the New Year could cost Conte at least £5m, but he would be able to take over at Real or Bayern and still negotiate a Chelsea pay-off.

Zinedine Zidane had been the favourite to take over at United if Mourinho is sacked, but the Frenchman’s agent Alain Migliaccio has attempted to distance his client from the role.

Sources in Germany have also claimed Zidane would be high on Bayern’s list of targets if they choose to fire Niko Kovac, following a disastrous start to the Bundesliga season that has seen them stop for the international break in sixth place.

United’s options to replace Mourinho before the end of the season would be limited, as Tottenham Hotspur are confident Mauricio Pochettino would not leave mid-campaign.

Conte is in the rare position of being a top-class manager who is currently out of work, although the nature of his fall-out at Chelsea would be a concern to United.

His record of winning the Premier League title and FA Cup during two seasons at Chelsea, and the fact he got the best out of Paul Pogba at Juventus, would however be of interest.

Conte has kept a low profile since leaving Chelsea and it is unclear what his managerial intentions are, but he will soon be in demand. Spanish reports have claimed he will be considered by Real Madrid if the European champions decide to sack Julen Lopetegui.

Conte turned down an approach from Real during the summer because he was still contracted to Chelsea and had not been sacked at the time.

But Real have completed a dismal run of four games without a victory, during which time they have not scored a goal, and Lopetegui’s job could well be on the line when they meet Barcelona on October 28.

Things do not look well for Julen Lopetegui, as he can be replaced on the Real Madrid bench just months after taking the job. The Blancos are coming off five matches without a victory, having drawn only one of those games. The latest that could have pushed Lopetegui over the edge was a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of their rivals, Barcelona.

Who will be the successor? The leading candidate at the moment is Santiago Solari. He is the current coach of their second squad, the Castilla. He also played with Real Madrid, making 131 appearances and scoring 23 goals in five years. It would be similar to the operation that brought Zidane to the bench, as he was also an in house candidate who grew at the club before taking over as manager.

Therefore, it seems like Solari is leading the race ahead of Antonio Conte, who would be a more experienced choice. Conte, however, continues to demand guarantees before accepting the challenge. The favorite to replace Lopetegui, is Santiago Solari.

The Real Madrid C.F. board of directors, which met today, 29 October 2018, has made the decision to terminate Julen Lopetegui's contract as the club's coach.

This decision, which was taken with the utmost responsibility, seeks to bring about a turnaround in the first-team's fortunes at a time when all of this season's targets are still achievable.

The board considers there to be a large disparity between the quality within the Real Madrid squad, which boasts eight nominees for the next Ballon d'Or award - an unprecedented number in the club's history - and the team's results to date.

The club places on record its thanks to Julen Lopetegui and all of his coaching staff for their efforts and work and wishes them all the best in their future careers.

Santiago Solari will take temporary charge of the team, assuming his role as first-team coach from tomorrow, Tuesday.

C朗大剖白：誓奪金球獎超越美斯，離開皇馬全因佩雷斯

趁著主要對手摩迪狀態低沉、美斯受傷缺陣，坦言渴望再奪金球獎的C朗作出最後拉票：「我今年值得拿金球獎！」

C朗日前向金球獎主辦機構《法國足球》深入剖白心聲，他不諱言很想六奪金球獎，在數目上超越美斯，並認為自己實至名歸。

C朗說：「我當然想再拿金球獎，我認為我今年值得拿金球獎，我夢想第六次捧起這獎座，憑這一次，超越美斯。

Antonio Conte has ruled himself out of the running to take over at Real Madrid because he feels the project is not right for him, Sky Sports News understands.

The Italian was linked with the role after the sacking of Julen Lopetegui following Real's 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Barcelona at the weekend.

據天空體育披露，前車路士領隊干地（Antonio Conte）與皇家馬德里談判未能達成共識，已拒絕接掌教鞭，並會休息到明年夏天為止。如今銀河艦隊將要重新尋找新帥，亦有可能重用蘇拿利度過今季後再作打算。

皇家馬德里周日在西班牙國家打比以1:5被死敵巴塞隆拿大敗後，辭退盧柏迪古，委任蘇拿利出任暫代教練，干地一直被視為真命天子，但雙方最終有緣無份。西班牙《馬卡報》日前披露，干地要求皇馬必須在1月增加兩名新援，其中一人是中堅，藉此讓球隊改為3中堅陣式，否則不願上「馬」。

49歲的干地曾教祖雲達斯、意大利國家隊和車路士，上季結束後離開史丹福橋，盛傳正覬覦曼聯帥位。
