球場介紹


奧脫福球場（Old Trafford，卜比查爾頓將球場稱為「夢劇場」〔The Theatre of Dreams〕）是位於曼徹斯特市內西面大曼徹斯特郡的足球場，屬於英格蘭球會曼聯主場，世界上最著名的足球場之一。曼聯由1910年便開始以此球場做為球會主場，1941年球場曾經受到炸彈轟炸，一度移至曼城主場緬因路球場比賽，直到1949年完成重建球場。
奧脫福球場是現時全英格蘭入座人數第二多的足球場，僅次於新建成的溫布萊球場，球場可以容納68,000人，2006年開始起在球場的東北及西北面進行大規模擴建，將於2006年/07年球季正式使用，屆時入座人數可以增加至76,000人
奧脫福球場由1998年開始也成為橄欖球聯賽比賽場地並在此舉行決賽。

紅魔的誕生

曼聯足球會前身紐頓希夫(Newton Heath LYR) 球隊是由蘭卡郡(Lancashire) 和 約克郡(Yorkshire) 的鐵路工人於1878年正式成立。
當年名不經傳的紐頓 希夫足球隊並不知道他們將來擔當英格蘭和世界球壇舉足輕重的角色。當時只 有參加蘭卡郡和約克郡鐵路公司各部門球隊間的聯賽和包括其他鐵路公司球隊 的聯賽。

英格蘭足球聯賽於1888 年成立之時紐頓希夫也沒有實力跟布力般流浪(Blackburn Rovers) 和普雷斯頓 (Preston North End) 等一起成為第一批會員，他們一直等到1892 年才正式加 盟。

紐頓希夫於二十世紀 初陷入了嚴重經濟困境，球會面臨倒閉之前出現了救星- 啤酒廠東主約翰亨利 •戴維斯(John Henry Davies) 。據說他是因為找到當時球隊隊長哈利史達福 (Harry Staffold) 的愛犬而得知球會的經濟問題的。【紅 魔 鬼 曼 聯 王 朝 討 論 區 】

戴維斯決定收購球會 以賺取營運利潤，並將球隊名稱更換。當中有提議用曼徹斯特中央隊(Manchester Central) 、曼徹斯特些路迪隊(Manchester Celtic) 等，最後於1902 年4 至 5 月間，曼聯足球會(Manchester United) 誕生了。

Kerlon agent urges Man Utd to try again


Brazilian forward Kerlon, one of the most talked about players in the world game, almost joined Manchester United before a knee injury in March left him sidelined for around eight months.

The 19-year-old's agent Mino Raiola has declared that an English club is ready to spend ?20 million (almost £14 million) on his client, although United have since signed Nani and Anderson to bolster their attacking options.

The Cruzeiro prodigy is famous for performing what has become known as the 'seal dribble' by balancing the ball on his head, although it is a move that has attracted some rough treatment from the opposition.

United have been strongly linked with a move for the South American in the British press for some time but Raiola has finally confirmed their interest.
"His name is in the note-books of all the top European clubs," Raiola told calciomercato. "Before his latest knee injury, he was close to signing for Manchester United.

"Inter were also very interested and Juventus know him very well.
"The only true attempt for him this summer was from Torino, who gave me the mandate to do the deal. But Cruzeiro declared he was not for sale and the Granata took [Alvaro] Recoba instead.

"Kerlon has a contract until 2009 with the option for another year but this is not the problem. Whoever wants him, must spend approximately ?20 million, a figure that an English club is already prepared to spend."

Giggs eyes winning streak


The Reds have beaten Chelsea just once in the last five Old Trafford meetings, but stand-in skipper Ryan Giggs believes United are good enough to take all three points from Sunday's Barclays Premier League fixture.

After a shaky start to the season that saw the Reds head into last month's home game against Tottenham second from bottom, United have dug in and ground out results. The football hasn't always been breathtaking (and the goals have hardly been flying in) but four 1-0 wins on the bounce have steadied the ship and eased fans' fears.

"We're quite capable of going on a good run," Giggs said. "Hopefully we can keep winning and extend that to 10 or 11 games. Each win and each performance breeds confidence throughout the team."

It's a confidence that begins with goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and the back four, particularly the central pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

"We're looking very good at the back," Giggs confirmed. "We're not letting in many goals and that's what we were all about last season. Defensively, if we keep it tight we know we'll get chances at the other end.

"Right now we're keeping clean sheets and still nicking the wins, but I think the goals will come soon."

Chelsea go into Sunday's encounter still reeling from Jose Mourinho's shock departure and with injury clouds looming over Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Claudio Pizzaro and Ricardo Carvalho. They've also failed to win in their last three outings.

Even so, Giggs says the Blues can still pose problems.

"I don't think Chelsea's injuries come into consideration. Whenever the big teams play each other form goes out the window because they have special players who can make things happen. It's always going to be close and the last few years have shown that."
