The Costa del Sol outfit’s Vice-President Abdullah Ghubn confirmed to radio station Onda Cero that the French international would be returning to his native country after a two-year spell at La Rosaleda, following his move from Lyon in June 2011.
According to Ghubn, it is a move Toulalan is keen to push through and he is believed to already be in Monaco for his medical.
“There is a deal in place for Toulalan’s sale to Monaco. The player wanted to return to France and we did not want to make things complicated for him,” he explained.
The 29-year-old played a total of 58 games for Los Boquerones, scoring three goals, and will become the latest big-name signing for the newly-promoted Principality club after James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho, Ricardo Carvalho and Radamel Falcao.
Monaco were not the only club to have shown an interest in Toulalan, with Lorient, Rennes and Atletico Madrid all tracking him, and the fee for the player is understood to be around ?5m plus add-ons.
