Napoli are determined to close the deal for James Rodriguez and today sporting director Giuntoli travelled to Spain to try to make progress.

The Colombian star’s agent Jorge Mendes was in Madrid as well to welcome him, it remains to be seen if they already had a meeting with Real Madrid or if it will happen down the road.

Giuntoli’s trip is however a clear sign Napoli want to make progress to try to fend off competition from Atletico Madrid.

During his trip to Spain, Giuntoli held contacts with James Rodriguez's agent Jorge Mendes, in order to discuss a possible deal. Napoli reitared their desire to sign the Colombian midfielder, who is not in the squad list for Real Madrid's tournée to Canada, on the basis of a loan with an option to buy, with Mendes still working to persuade the Spanish club to accept this transfer formula.

Real Madrid's James Rodriguez remains the number one target for Napoli this transfer window.
