League leaders Barcelona were due to kick off at 3.15pm UK time but club officials have reportedly called for the game to be postponed following a meeting at the Nou Camp.

Their opponents had opted to play with a Spanish flag on their shirt in protest against the proposed Catlan independence.

A club statement read: "Las Palmas could limited itself to being a mute witness to this historic crossroads or take action. We've opted for the latter.

"We've decided to add to our shirt a small Spanish flag and the today's date, to make clear our hopes for the future of this country."

周日巴塞主場對拉斯彭馬斯的西甲賽事，正正是加泰羅尼亞獨立公投的日子，而早前有市民前往投票時與防暴警察發生衝突，令國內氣氛轉趨緊張，更有人擔心聚集大量球迷的足球賽事，會成為不法之徒乘機鬧事的契機。所以球會雙方正詢問加泰羅尼亞安全理事會的意見，相關單位將會準備一份保安報告，如果認為球場內有保安隱憂，不會排除將比賽延後。據當地傳媒《Mundo Deportivo》指出，安全理事會有報告之後會先通知雙方球會，再向外公佈比賽安排。

今場比賽本身已經充滿政治色彩，先是巴塞隆拿選擇以加泰羅尼亞國旗顏色，即紅黃二色球衣出戰；而拉斯彭馬斯亦決定穿上特製球衣比賽，上面印有西班牙國旗及10月1日的字樣，有「團結西班牙信念」之意，雙方的舉措都引來外界不同意見。
