Julian Draxler made Wolfsburg aware he wanted to leave 'three weeks' ago



Germany international Julian Draxler has revealed that he wants to leave VfL Wolfsburg for a top international club this summer and says he made that clear to the club following Euro 2016.

Draxler, 22, made the statements in an interview with Bild while responding to previous claims from manager Dieter Hecking that the midfielder would not be leaving the club this summer.

Hecking said: "We won't comment on every rumour, but we explicitly decreed that Julian will stay with us."

However Draxler, who joined from Bundesliga rival FC Schalke for ?34 million in 2014 and signed a five-year-contract, denied those claims saying: "One could have talked to me personally before making public declarations.

After the Euro 2016 I clearly said to Dieter Hecking that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach is aware of that for the past three weeks."

Draxler played in 35 matches across all competition for the Wolves, netting nine goals and assisting on another eight.

"I am surprised that matters regarding my [future] are being communicated in the media," Draxler said. "I expected that to go differently. For example that someone approaches me and asks me for my views instead."

Asked whether general manager Klaus Allofs approached him, Draxler responded: "We shortly texted. I talked on the phone with coach Hecking.

Two days after the semifinal at the Euro I explained my point of view and expressed my wish that I want to leave the club.

Now I'm back in Germany and things are being communicated via the media rather than with me in person. Now I also wanted to make myself heard."

The 22-year-old world champion started in four out of six matches at the Euro, scoring a goal and adding a lovely assist against Slovakia in the round of 16.

"When I transferred to Wolfsburg in 2015, we had a verbal agreement that I can leave the club when a possibility emerges. With Dieter Hecking as well as Klaus Allofs," Draxler said.

"It was obvious that Wolfsburg showed me a good perspective back then, but also served as stepping stone."

Wolfsburg finished eighth in the past Bundesliga campaign and is now set to miss out on European football. Because of the club's lack of representation on that stage, key players including Draxler, midfielder Luiz Gustavo and left-back Ricardo Rodriguez have all been linked with moves during the summer.

Winger Andre Schurrle and centre-back Naldo have departed to Ruhr clubs Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, respectively. Striker Max Kruse was unveiled at Werder Bremen on Tuesday.

Draxler added: "It was set between all persons involved that I could leave for an international top club when the chance presents itself. It was agreed that we would have reasonable talks, if other clubs show interest."

Julian Draxler told he will not be allowed to leave Wolfsburg this summer

Wolfsburg say Julian Draxler will not be allowed to leave this summer, despite his desire to quit the club.

The 22-year-old Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal but Wolfsburg had claimed the winger is happy to remain at the Volkswagen Arena for another season.

Draxler hit back at those suggestions and claimed the club have known about his desire to leave for three weeks, adding that he was given assurances he would be allowed to leave the Bundesliga side if one of Europe's "top clubs" came in with an offer for him this summer.

However, Wolfsburg have categorically ruled out selling the player, releasing a statement denying the existence of "any written or verbal agreement made at any time regarding a transfer of Julian Draxler within the current transfer period up to August 31, 2016."

The statement continued: "This is confirmed by a release clause stipulated with Julian Draxler and his management which only comes into force in the summer of 2017.

"Wolfsburg will not transfer Julian Draxler during the current transfer period. Wolfsburg have explained to Julian Draxler once again in a talk that his express to leave the club cannot be accommodated."

The Bundesliga side said they hope that "now all apparent uncertainties have been resolved, all involved can return to leading a professional, responsible cooperation for the good of Wolfsburg and in particular also our fans."

Draxler underwent his first training session of pre-season on Wednesday before meeting with club bosses and being informed of their refusal to let him leave.

Earlier he had made clear his desire to leave the club this summer and hit back at previous claims from Wolfsburg that he was happy to stay.

"Before you go public like that, you really should speak with me first," Draxler told German newspaper Bild.

"The situation with me is that I made it clear to [head coach] Dieter Hecking after we were knocked out of Euro 2016 in the semi-final that I would like to leave Wolfsburg.

"The coach has known about this for three weeks. It's very surprising that they have been talking about me to the media for weeks.

"I would have expected things to be different, for example for one of them to come to me and ask me how things are with me."

Draxler made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg last season after signing from Bundesliga rivals Schalke in 2015.

Although he signed a five-year deal with Wolfsburg, the highly-rated winger says he was given assurances that he would be allowed to leave if a top European side came in with an offer for him this summer.

"When I joined, I was assured - verbally - that I could leave the club whenever the opportunity arose," Draxler said. "Both Hecking and [sporting director] Klaus Allofs said this. It was clear that Wolfsburg had good prospects, but also that they were a springboard for me.

"It was always clear to everybody that I would like to join a top club in Europe, if I were to get the chance."

Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with VfL Wolfsburg for the transfer of Julian Draxler, a source close to the French champions has told ESPN FC.

Speculation has been rife for weeks that Les Parisiens want the Germany international and reports in France earlier this week claimed the Qatari-owned club were about to lodge a bid with the player already keen on the switch.

Those claims, among them RMC Sport, were accurate. The Ligue 1 giants and the Bundesliga strugglers have now struck a deal of ?35 million with the potential to rise by another ?10 million in bonuses for the man from Gladbeck, which both parties find acceptable.

Draxler, 23, has already spoken with PSG's director of football Patrick Kluivert and the source said only the finishing touches are missing from a three or four-and-a-half-year contract at Parc des Princes for the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner.

The versatile attacker has been criticised for his attitude with Wolfsburg this season after failing to secure a move away this summer. But he did assist Mario Gomez's goal in the 2-1 away win over Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday -- expected to be his final action for Die Wolfe.
