Quincy Promes scored two early goals to set the Netherlands on their way to a 4-1 victory over Belarus in their World Cup Group A qualifier on Friday and snap a miserable run of home form.

Davy Klaassen and Vincent Janssen added two more in the second half as the Dutch, who finished third at the last World Cup in Brazil but failed to qualify for Euro 2016, ended an unprecedented run of five successive home defeats stretching back 16 months.

Aleksey Rios scored for Belarus just after half-time but a comeback did not materialise. Promes' opener in the 14th minute marked his first international goal as he hit the ball through the legs of three defenders. He added a second 15 minutes later with a strong finish from the edge of the penalty area.

Belarus threatened with two good chances before the break and then scored straight after it with Sergei Kornilenko's strong run setting up Rios for a close-range finish.

But the Dutch quickly restored their two-goal advantage in the 54th minute as Klaassen tapped home the rebound after Belarus had lost possession on the edge of their own area.

Janssen struck the woodwork with a shot but found the net with a thunderous left-foot shot as the Dutch moved to four points from their opening two qualifiers after a draw in Sweden last month. They host France in Amsterdam on Monday.

France 4-1 Bulgaria: French come from behind to record emphatic win

Kevin Gameiro struck twice as France came from behind to run out convincing 4-1 winners over Bulgaria in their World Cup Qualifier in Paris.

Dimitri Payet - with a cross-cum-shot - and Antoine Griezmann also got on the score-sheet as France hit back after Mihail Alexsandrov's early penalty at the Stade de France.
The victory was France's first of the campaign after they were held in their Group A opener in Belarus last month, and it put them in good heart for Monday's trip to Holland.

Bulgaria claimed a surprise early lead after Georgi Milanov wrong-footed Bacary Sagna in the box and was clipped by the Manchester City defender to earn a penalty. Alexsandrov struck from the spot.

France responded well and pulled level after 23 minutes as Sagna atoned for his earlier error by curling in a superb cross for Gameiro to score with a firm glancing header.

Another quickly followed when what seemed like a cross from the tricky Payet was not touched by the head of the diving Griezmann and bounced straight into the net.

The hosts were denied a penalty after Djibril Sidibe, who replaced an injured Sagna after 27 minutes, went down under a Zhivko Milanov challenge, but they still claimed a third before the break.

Dimitar Pirgov gifted Griezmann the opportunity with a poor ball across his error and the Atletico Madrid forward seized the chance, taking a touch to steady himself and then shooting low into the bottom corner.

France went in search of more after the break and went close when Laurent Koscielny headed wide.

Their fourth, and Gameiro's second, came just before the hour. Layvin Kurzawa was heavily involved in the move with some great work on the left before finding Griezmann, whose ball across goal then presented his strike partner with a simple finish.

There was to be no hat-trick as Gameiro was replaced after 72 minutes but France continued to press with Moussa Sissoko shooting at Vladislav Stoyanov and Blaise Matuidi hitting the outside of the post.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores four as Portugal thrash nine-man Andorra

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals, including two in the first five minutes, to lead European champions Portugal to a 6-0 win over nine-man Andorra in their World Cup qualifier on Friday.

It was the Portugal captain's fourth hat-trick for his country and the first time he has scored four in a match, taking his tally to 65 goals in 134 internationals.

The win got Portugal off the mark in Group B after a shock 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in their opening game last month when Ronaldo was missing through injury.

Andorra's Jordi Rubio was dismissed in the 62nd minute and Marc Rebes followed nine minutes later, both for fouls on Ronaldo.

Ronaldo opened his account after 73 seconds, driving the ball home after Andorra failed to clear a corner, and headed home Ricardo Quaresma's cross in the fourth minute.

Jose Fonte was brilliantly denied by Andorra goalkeeper Josep Gomes, Andre Silva hit the bar and Ronaldo was close with another header, before Joao Cancelo added Portugal's third in the 44th minute.

Ronaldo completed his hat-trick two minutes after the re-start when he volleyed in Andre Gomes' cross and scored his fourth in the 68th minute after Fonte headed Quaresma's cross into his path.

Andre Silva added the sixth with a deflected shot.
