Goals from Luis Suarez and Munir handed Barcelona a 2-0 win in the Spanish Super Cup first leg at Sevilla on Sunday evening. Suarez gave Barcelona the lead nine minute after half-time, slotting home inside the area after fine build-up play. Substitute Munir then poked past Sergio Rico with his first touch of the game late on, giving Barcelona a healthy lead going into the return leg. The second leg will be played at the Nou Camp on Wednesday evening, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 10pm.
The first chance of the game fell to Luis Suarez, whose poked effort towards the bottom corner early on was saved superbly by Rico in the Sevilla goal.
There was concern on the injury front for Luis Enrique's side in the first half, with both Jeremy Mathieu (hamstring) and Andres Iniesta (knee) taken off.
Arda Turan mistimed an overhead kick in acres of space in the six-yard box later in the half, but Barcelona struggled for rhythm before the break as Sevilla pressed high.
Luis Suarez again came close after the break, seeing his glancing header from namesake Denis Suarez's drilled cross saved by Rico at the second attempt.
But the Uruguayan got his goal on 54 minutes, finishing off a fine move as Turan chested down Denis Suarez's drilled ball into his path from 15 yards.
Lionel Messi nearly doubled Barca's lead moments later, but Rico was out well to block his effort having been put through on goal by Luis Suarez.
Rico did well to beat away Sergi Roberto's snapshot later in the half, but he could not deny Barca grabbing a second on 81 minutes.
Latching onto Messi's fine through ball, Munir pushed the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to silence the home fans in the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
Messi nearly got a third in stoppage time, but Rico tipped away his right-footed drive from just inside the area.
