Reds head to California without attacking midfielder but he may follow soon
Liverpool flew off to America on their pre-season tour without Georginio Wijnaldum - but increasingly confident that they will secure the services of the Newcastle United attacking midfielder.
Talks are continuing between the clubs over the structure of a deal which will be worth around £25million.
The Dutch international, who played the final 11 minutes of Newcastle's 2-2 friendly draw with Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night, has his heart set on a move to Anfield.Liverpool are hoping an agreement can be struck so that Wijnaldum can fly out to join up with Jurgen Klopp's squad in California.
A medical could take place in the States with personal terms unlikely to be a stumbling block.
Liverpool pursued a deal for the 25-year-old this week after being frustrated in their attempts to land Udinese's Piotr Zielinski.Wijnaldum scored 11 goals last season after joining Newcastle for £14.5million from PSV Eindhoven.
Klopp's men flew to the west coast of America in the early hours of Thursday following the 2-0 friendly win over Huddersfield Town.
They are scheduled to have a light session at their Stanford University training base on Thursday.
