Fenerbahce's Robin van Persie in Middlesbrough talks - sources Middlesbrough are in talks to sign Robin van Persie from Fenerbahce, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC. Van Persie, 32, left Manchester United from Fenerbahce last summer but newly promoted Middlesbrough are working on a deal to take the Netherlands international back to the Premier League.Sources told ESPN FC that former Arsenal star Van Persie, who scored 20 goals in 45 appearances last season, was holding talks with Boro on Wednesday.Middlesbrough have already brought in Viktor Fischer, Bernardo Espinosa and Marten de Roon this summer, and the Teeside Gazette reports that former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes could soon follow.
However, Boro boss Aitor Karanka has said he intends to give the players who secured promotion last season the chance to impress as they prepare for their first Premier League campaign in seven years.
"I know them, they know me, so for that reason we just keep going," Karanka told the club's official website.
"Now we have two or three weeks to sign new players, but we are in the Premier League thanks to the players that were here so it's a good few weeks for them to convince me."
