Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid could face transfer bans like Barcelona's after FIFA investigation, reveals Sepp Blatter- FIFA probe into Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid revealed by Sepp Blatter
- Suspended president does not know outcome and FIFA did not comment
- Spanish capital clubs could face a sanction like Barcelona's transfer ban
- They were not allowed to register new players for a period of one year
- A ban could derail Real moves for Eden Hazard and Robert Lewandowski
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have been investigated for similar irregularities that led to Barcelona's ban on registering new players, according to suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter. The Swiss football chief says both clubs should face transfer bans if they have broken the same rules as their La Liga rivals.
Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo quote Blatter as saying: 'If they (FIFA) punished Barcelona for breaking FIFA rules and if Real and Atletico Madrid have committed identical misdemeanours then the punishment should be the same.' Barca were forced to miss out on two transfer windows for failing to abide by strict rules over the signing of Under 18s. Blatter added: 'FIFA has opened investigations into Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid for the same infractions that Barcelona committed.'I know these [investigations] are closed but I don't know if there are sanctions because they are independent investigations and I am banned from setting foot in FIFA.'
The comments have been taken to spell transfer trouble ahead for Barca's La Liga rivals, with the Catalan club convinced both are on the verge of being hit with the same double transfer-window ban on signing new players that they have endured for the last year.
If the FIFA penalty is imposed it will throw Real Madrid's summer plans into chaos with a move for Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski - and the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris Saint-Germain - all derailed.
Barcelona are still smarting from not being able to register any of the players they have signed in the last 12 months and understand that both
Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have broken the same rules and are awaiting notification of their punishments.Unhappy at the way FIFA appear to be delaying imposing the penalty, Catalan media got in touch with the game's governing body two weeks ago only to be told that it would not discuss the matter until the clubs involved had been informed.
The timing of the notification will be crucial in regard to when Real Madrid will not be able to sign players. It is standard practice for clubs to appeal these decisions as Barcelona did and therefore delay the start of their punishment by one transfer window.
It now looks unlikely that they will be informed before the end of the year. If FIFA delay their announcement of any ban until after January then Real and Atletico would have the summer to sign players while they were appealing FIFA's decision.
Under FIFA rules players under the age of 18 can only switch national federations if both of their parents move country for reasons unrelated to football.
