Newcastle United expect to wrap up £4.5million deal imminently, and Steve McClaren has confirmed talks for Henri SaivetNewcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has confirmed that Henri Saivet is on Tyneside to have a medical ahead of a £4,4million move.The Chronicle first reported news of this transfer on Boxing Day and the Bordeaux star is likely to be the first January arrival at United.
Speaking ahead of the Manchester United game McClaren said the deal was not yet completed but he did say: “We are just waiting for the outcome really.
“I think everybody would say in January we need to strengthen and we’d like to strengthen. We will have to wait and see.
“We are doing our business quietly and privately. With this one with Henri we will wait until it’s done before we comment.
“We are at a sensitive stage where we are going through a medical and negotiating a contract.
“I’ve seen these deals fall through and everybody has egg on their face. People can get left upset but all I can say is he’s in the building.
“When it’s all done and signed we will talk about his assets and what he will bring to the team.”
Bordeaux boss Willy Sagnol confirmed at his press conference today that a deal has been struck with United – and the Ligue 1 club tweeted confirmation. A five year contract is on the table.
