Watford loanee Alessandro Diamanti is in talks to return to Italy with Atalanta, according to Sky Italia. The 32-year-old former West Ham player has struggled to break into the Hornets' first-team since joining on a season-long loan from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande. It is understood Atalanta are after a replacement for Maxi Moralez and former Livorno, Brescia and Bologna star Diamanti is their first choice. Sources in Italy say negotiations are well underway and the deal could be closed quickly, with Diamanti keen to earn a place in Italy's squad for the European Championships this summer. Diamanti joined Guangzhou Evergrande from Bologna in February 2014 and made 24 appearances in the Chinese Super League before joining Fiorentina for the second half of the 2014-15 Serie A season.
He previously spent a year at West Ham, scoring seven goals in the 2009-10 season, before a £1.8m deal to Brescia.
Diamanti has made just three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Watford this season.
