RAHMAN DEAL EXPECTED THIS WEEK

Chelsea are expected to complete the signing of Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman this week, according to reports in Germany.

Following talks between the two clubs and player, which are reportedly still ongoing, the Premier League champions look set to bring in a like-for-like replacement for Filipe Luis, who returned to Atletico Madrid last month after a season at Stamford Bridge.

According to German magazine Kicker, the 21-year old will travel to London before Chelsea’s trip to Manchester City on Saturday Night Football next weekend to undergo a medical with the club.

Chelsea are close to agreeing a fee with Augsburg for the transfer of left-back Baba Rahman, according to Sky sources.

The 21-year-old has been a target for the Blues for a number of weeks and his agent confirmed earlier this month that the player had already agreed to join the Blues.

Rahman enjoyed a standout season for a side who finished fifth in the Bundesliga, playing 31 times and making more tackles than any other left-back in the German top division last season.

Sascha Empacher, who represents the Ghana international, confirmed to German newspaper Bild last week: "It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed."

It is understood Augsburg were determined to bring in a new left-back before allowing Rahman to leave, and they clinched the signing of 21-year-old Philipp Max, also last week.

Chelsea have needed competition for their only left-back Cesar Azpilicueta after selling Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid, and Rahman has been their first choice.

Rahman began his career at Bundlesliga 2 side Greuther Furth, making his debut as a 16-year-old before a move to Augsburg in 2014.

He has made 31 top-flight appearances for the club and has 11 caps for Ghana, featuring in all their matches at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.

Chelsea completes deal for Baba: the financial figures

After a long negotiation, Chelsea has completed the deal for Baba.
Mourinho's club reached an agreement with Augsburg for ?20 million plus ?5 million in bonuses.
The German club will receive an additional million after 20 matches as well as ?5 million more after 100 matches for Chelsea.
The player will sign a 5 year contract with annual salary of ?3 million net of taxes. Baba is on his way to the Premier League.

Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter has told Sky Deutschland that Rahman Baba has had a medical ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has been a target for the Blues for a number of weeks and sources understand the fee will be over £20m.

According to reports in Germany, Augsburg Commercial Manager Stefan Reuter has confirmed that Abdul Rahman Baba has signed for Chelsea.

"The contracts between Augsburg and Chelsea are signed. Baba is now a Chelsea player," Reuter told Bild in an interview today.

BABA FEE AROUND £20M

Sky Sports News HQ understands the Ghanaian signed his Chelsea contract today and we understand he will cost his new club a little over £20m. Its a huge profit for Augsburg who paid less than £2m for him last year.

Rahman, a pacy and attacking full-back who can also operate as a midfielder or winger, made more successful tackles than any other player in the Bundesliga last season. He also attempted the most crosses from the left flank.

He arrives after one season with Augsburg, in which he helped them qualify for the Europa League, making 31 league appearances.

Rahman previously spent two seasons with Greuther Furth in Germany, having been spotted as a youngster with Asante Kotoko in his homeland.
