Leicester are in talks with Atalanta over signing full-back Timothy Castagne.

The Foxes are keen to add cover at left-back after selling Ben Chilwell to Chelsea last week.

Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico and Castagne's Atalanta team-mate Robin Gosens are also on Leicester's shortlist, but the 24-year-old Belgian is their top target.

Castagne is keen to move to the Premier League and is likely to be cheaper than Tagliafico or Gosens because he only has one year remaining on his contract.

Castagne helped Atalanta to a third-place finish in Serie A and the Champions League quarter-finals last season.

He primarily played as a right-wing-back for the Italian side but is capable of playing on the left and in a back four.

Timothy Castagne Pens Five-Year Deal With Leicester City

Leicester City Football Club have agreed terms with Atalanta for the transfer of full-back Timothy Castagne, subject to Premier League and international clearance.


The 24-year-old Belgian international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Foxes and will link up with his new team-mates after the conclusion of the current international break.

Capped seven times by his country, the full-back, who can operate on either side of defence, joined Serie A outfit Atalanta from Genk in 2017 and helped his team qualify for the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history with a third-place finish in Serie A.

During the 2019/20 season, Castagne played 35 times in all competitions as Atalanta finished third for the second year running and also featured on six occasions in the UEFA Champions League. The Italian side enjoyed an impressive run to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they faced French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Leicester City and Newcastle United are two of the clubs looking at signing Norwich City left back Jamal Lewis. Liverpool made a £10m bid which was rejected last month. Norwich value him at £20m. He is under contract until 2023.

Timothy Castagne: Leicester City sign Belgium full-back from Atalanta

Leicester City have signed Belgium full-back Timothy Castagne from Atalanta on a five-year deal.

The 24-year-old scored five goals in 76 appearances for the Serie A side, who he joined from Genk in 2017.

Castagne, a versatile full-back who can play on either wing, joins Brendan Rodgers' side following Ben Chilwell's departure to Chelsea.

He made his international debut in 2018 and has won seven caps for Belgium in total, scoring twice.

The move is for an undisclosed fee and is subject to Premier League and international clearance.

Castagne helped Atalanta qualify for last season's Champions League for the first time in the club's history and they reached the quarter-finals before losing to Paris St-Germain.

He made 33 appearances for the club during the 2019/20 campaign.
