Tottenham lead the chase for Burnley’s £3.5m-rated right back Kieran Trippier.
Trippier, 24, is set to leave Turf Moor in the wake of Burnley’s relegation from the Barclays Premier League.
The former Manchester City defender has a £3.5m release clause in his contract and has already attracted interest from Liverpool.
However Sportsmail understands that Tottenham have now jumped to the front of the queue to sign the highly-rated Lancastrian.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants a new full back for next season and has been attracted by Trippier’s dependability and the way that he is able to get forward.
Liverpool retain a firm interest but the Anfield club – still strong favourites to sign Burnley centre forward Danny Ings – have put transfer business on hold until talks over the future of Brendan Rodgers have taken place.
City themselves will benefit from any deal. They sold Tripper – a product of their youth academy – for £450,000 in 2012 but had a clause inserted in the deal that stipulated they receive 40 per cent on any future profit on that deal.
This means that City would receive more than a £1m when Trippier’s release clause is activated. Trippier earns in the region of £20,000-a-week at Burnley and would expect to be offered a significant increase on that at Tottenham.

Manquillo, Guilavogui and Cerci to continue on loan

Atlético are set to decide the fates of a number of players who have spent the season out on loan. Óliver Torres and Toby Alderweireld will return and rejoin the first team squad but a number of others will be farmed out to other clubs or sold.

Manquillo, Guilavogui and Cerci; on loan at Liverpool, Wolfsburg and AC Milan respectively, will see out their loan contracts and Atleti have no plans to recover any of the three before then.

Trippier set for Tottenham talks ahead of £3.5m move

Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold talks with Burnley defender Kieran Trippier this week as they edge closer towards a £3.5million deal.
Trippier is expected to have a medical at Spurs in the next 72 hours after Mauricio Pochettino agreed to trigger the release clause in the 24-year-old’s contract.
The former Manchester City trainee can leave Burnley for a set price and Spurs are hopeful of completing a deal before the weekend to make him their second new recruit of the summer.
Liverpool, Aston Villa and Bournemouth have all considered a move for Trippier, who impressed in Burnley’s brief stay in the Premier League, but Spurs are now clear favourites to secure his signing.
Burnley have already lost England international Danny Ings to Liverpool while centre-half Jason Shackell is a £2million target for Championship rivals Derby County.

Tottenham close to signing Burnley's Kieran Trippier



Tottenham are close to signing Kieran Trippier from Burnley, according to Sky sources.

It is understood Spurs have agreed a deal with the newly-relegated Clarets, with the usual formalities of a medical and the final agreement of personal terms all that is left to conclude.

Tottenham are one of a number of clubs interested in the defender, who impressed in the Premier League last season despite Burnley’s relegation, including newly-promoted Bournemouth.

Both clubs are refusing to comment but Trippier is set to become Spurs' second signing of the season after the Austria defender Kevin Wimmer completed his move last month, and Trippier will provide competition to Kyle Walker for a place at right-back.

Trippier joined Burnley from Manchester City in 2012 after an impressive loan spell followed two previous, temporary stints at Barnsley.

He never made a first team appearance for City but has played over 150 times for Burnley and scored four goals.

Trippier has also represented every England team from U18 to U21 level but is yet to be called up to the England senior team.

Spurs are keen to strengthen themselves defensively this summer and also have an interest in the Barcelona centre-back Marc Bartra.
