Championship play-off final match report: Middlesbrough 0-2 Norwich Norwich have been promoted to the Premier League after a 2-0 victory against Middlesbrough at Wembley Stadium. First-half goals from Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond less than three minutes apart were enough to ensure the Canaries' returned to the top flight 12 months after being relegated. A frantic opening ten minutes saw both sides hit the woodwork, first Norwich through Bradley Johnson and then Jelle Vossen for Boro moments later with a delightful strike from outside the area.
Norwich took the lead through their top scorer Jerome, who gladly pounced on a horrendous Daniel Ayala error before bearing down on goal and slotting past Dimitrios Konstantopoulos from an acute angle.
The opening goal lifted Norwich into a higher gear and three minutes later, they were 2-0 up.
Full back Steven Whittaker fed Nathan Redmond and the winger took one touch to steady himself before rifling an effort into the bottom corner.
Boro improved after the interval but failed to fashion any gilt-edged opportunities against a stubborn Norwich side, who never looked like surrendering their two goal lead.
It's the Canaries who bounce straight back into the Premier League at the first time of asking, while Middlesbrough's six year absence will be extended by at least another 12 months.
More to follow.
