Stoke give Leicester City permission to speak to defender Huth



Stoke City have given Leicester City permission to speak to Robert Huth about a possible loan deal for the defender, according to Sky Sources.

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson has been looking for new recruits to boost his squad as the Foxes, who are currently bottom of the Premier League table, face a battle to stay in the top flight.

The 30-year-old German defender, who has played 187 times for Stoke since his £5m transfer from Middlesbrough in August 2009, has fallen down the pecking order under boss Mark Hughes at the Britannia.

The arrival of Philipp Wollscheid has broken up Huth's partnership with Ryan Shawcross at the heart of the Stoke defence and it is thought the former Chelsea player is keen on a loan move to put himself in the shop window for a summer transfer.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, who managed Huth during his time as Stoke boss, was also believed to be interested in the German stopper but it appears Pearson has jumped ahead of him in the queue.

Stoke defender Robert Huth is having a medical at Leicester City, according to Potters manager Mark Hughes.

Huth, 30, has made 187 appearances for Stoke since joining the club for £5m from Middlesbrough in 2009.

The German is serving a two-game ban for comments made on social media.

Ninth-placed Stoke beat QPR 3-1 on Saturday, while Leicester lost by the same scoreline at Manchester United to remain two points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League.

The transfer window shuts at 23:00 GMT on Monday.

Stoke defender Robert Huth is one step closer to a loan move to Leicester and is at the Foxes' training ground to discuss the deal.

Huth, who has completed a medical assessment at Leicester, has made 187 appearances for Stoke since joining the club for £5m from Middlesbrough in 2009.

The German, 30, is serving a two-game ban for comments made on his social media account.

Huth has made just three starts and one appearance from the bench this season after returning from a knee ligament injury sustained in November 2013.

A 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday compounded Leicester’s struggle to prevent a return to the Championship, and the addition of Huth’s experience would give boss Nigel Pearson another option in the heart of the team's defence.
