Official: Robin Dutt To Take Over As Bayer Leverkusen Coach This Summer
Robin Dutt has been appointed as the new man in charge at Bayer Leverkusen starting this summer.
Ambitious Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed on their official website that current Freiburg coach Robin Dutt will be the Werkself's new head coach starting from this summer.
Leverkusen were in the market for a new coach following current boss Jupp Heynckes' decision not to extend his expiring contract, but the Bundesliga's second placed side didn't need long to sign a replacement.
"Robin Dutt was always our first option to replace Heynckes if he decided to leave, regardless of whether he'd leave this summer or in 2012," commented sporting director Rudi Voeller on the official Leverkusen website.
The 46-year-old Dutt started his coaching career with Ditzingen and also was in charge of Stuttgarter Kickers before taking over at Freiburg in the summer of 2007. He won promotion to the Bundesliga with Freiburg in 2009 and has since helped them to become a stable Bundesliga side.
"I'm really looking forward to the challenge of taking over at Leverkusen and building on Jupp Heynckes' good work. I share the club's footballing philosophy and am pleased with this move," said Dutt.
Heynckes' decision not to sign a contract extension probably means that the experienced coach will take over at German powerhouse Bayern Munich, but both Heynkces and Bayern have yet to comment on an eventual appointment at the Bavarians.
