More on the story now that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to extend Frank Lampard’s loan at the club until the summer of 2016.

Just days after the champions announced the former Chelsea midfield had extended his loan until the end of the season, the Daily Star reports Pellegrini will try to prolong his stay at the Etihad beyond this year.

It is believed Lampard would have his £190,000-a-week wages cut if an extension were to take place but with Pellegrini desperate to keep hold, wages shouldn't be a problem.

Premier League: Frank Lampard only has deal with Manchester City, not New York City FC

The Premier League has confirmed that Frank Lampard is registered as a player solely with Manchester City.

The league statement came in response to the confusion over Lampard's status amid continuing silence by both clubs.

The New York team, which debuts in Major League Soccer in March, announced last July that Lampard signed a two-year contract, and used it to promote the sale of jerseys and season tickets.

Shortly after that, Man City announced Lampard was returning to the Premier League on loan to stay match fit for his New York debut.

Lampard's seven goals have been valuable to City’s defence of the Premier League, and the English club announced on 31 December that he was staying in Manchester for the remainder of the season.

MLS claimed that although Lampard had not signed a contract with New York, the former Chelsea midfielder had a deal with City Football Group, the umbrella company for the clubs owned by Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour.

The Premier League statement read: "Frank Lampard is registered with Manchester City FC until the end of the 2014-15 season.

"The Premier League has sought and received assurances from Manchester City that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football Group with New York City FC relating to the player."

There has been criticism in the United States over Lampard's failure to start the MLS season with New York.

The New York City supporters' group, The Third Rail, said it was "outraged" by Lampard's prolonged stay in England.

"Many fans, including our members, decided to support the team, committed to season tickets, and bought merchandise under the impression that Frank Lampard would be playing for New York City Football Club, not Manchester City," a statement from the group read.

2014年7月24日，美職球隊紐約城在官網發佈一則消息：「繼韋拿、保斯基、辛度斯後，林柏特加入球會，簽約兩年，合約由8月1日起生效。他會穿上8號的球衣。」在這篇消息的最後，紐約城以此作招徠，吸引球迷買季票，「可以見到林柏特及欣賞紐約城整個美職球季的季票已經有售，大家可以聯絡……」

事過半年，時間把這件事一層一層地揭開，人們逐漸發現背後的騙局。據最新得到的資訊，林柏特從來沒有簽約紐約城，曼城與紐約城之間也沒有任何租借協議。對外名義上，林柏特是紐約城的人，實際卻是曼城的人，但歸根究底，他是阿布札比投資發展集團的人。

2014年8月6日，紐約城宣佈林柏特加盟曼城，而曼城亦在官網發佈消息。筆者翻查這兩篇聲明，發現用字十分小心，完全沒有借用（loan）的出現，兩支球隊都是用加入（join up）的字眼。當時傳媒及球迷都沒有為意，先入為主覺得這是紐約城外借林柏特予曼城。現在再看這兩篇聲明，筆者不得不感嘆魔鬼在細節。

]在林柏特的加盟曼城的聲明中，沒有明確標示限期，就寫住：「在會合紐約城為處子球季備戰前，林柏特會在曼城比賽及訓練。」美職球季3月開鑼，大家都相信林柏特最多最多會在曼城留到2月，而根據傳媒的消息，林柏特則會在1月離開曼城。全世界都覺得沒大問題，因為韋拿、卡卡等的情況亦類似。

隨英超賽季展開，林柏特越戰越勇，還在舊會車路士身上取得入球。這時候，開始有報道指，曼城想借用林柏特到季尾。消息一路一路地傳，越來越接近1月，但紐約城及曼城都未見有新宣佈，直至12月31日，兩間球會發聲明，其中曼城表示：「曼城確認，延長林柏特的合約至季尾，確保他可以繼續參與球會的本土及歐洲賽。」再提多次，這次聲明亦沒有提及任何續租的字眼。

一石激起千層浪，紐約城球迷十分不滿！原來他們手上的季票只可以看到半季的林柏特，他們有被騙的感覺。此事亦引起美職及英超賽會的注意，他們決定調查這件林柏特「租借」風波，看看曼城有沒有違規。最後，調查結果令人瞠目結舌，曼城沒有違規，因為林柏特從來都不是紐約城的人。

英超賽會表示：「林柏特以曼城球員的身分註冊到14/15球季完結。賽會尋求並得到曼城的證實，曼城或城市足球集團跟紐約城沒有就林柏特存在任何協議。」英超賽會的解釋很簡單，林柏特從頭到尾都是曼城的人。換句話說，林柏特根本不是租借到曼城，他是以自由身加盟了曼城。

在美職賽會方面，則有另一個版本，但大同小異，他們同樣指出，林柏特沒有跟紐約城簽過任何合約，而跟林柏特簽約兩年的是城市足球集團。甚麼是城市足球集團？就是阿布札比投資發展集團旗下的子公司，也是曼城、紐約城的母公司。因此，林柏特的擁有權不屬於球會，而是第3方的集團，而這個集團亦同時擁有曼城及紐約城。

舉個比喻，如果林柏特是李嘉誠手下的員工，原本誠哥要他去豐澤，但後來又要他先在百佳做一年。在誠哥眼中，這不是豐澤外借員工到百佳，只是他旗下集團的人手調動而已。同樣道理，林柏特去紐約城還是留曼城，不是兩間球會的轉會，而是一個集團內部的人手調動。

站在不同立場去想，林柏特今季在曼城踢得風生水起，當然不想中途離開。曼城領隊比歷連尼亦多次表示，希望林柏特留到季尾。因此，在林柏特及曼城的立場，他們是希望林柏特繼續留在曼城。站在城市足球集團的角度，曼城是他們最主力的球隊，理應得到最多的資源，既然曼城需要林柏特，林柏特亦想留隊，他們亦順利成章，犧牲了紐約城。

在林柏特「租借」風波中，最大受害者是紐約城球迷。城市足球集團及林柏特應該欠他們一個道歉。他們買了季票，滿心歡喜地打算看一季林柏特，但最後只看到半季（前提當然是林柏特會在夏天回紐約城，但相信在輿論壓力下，他都不敢不回）。無論在情在理，他們都有憤怒的理由，而球會亦應該盡力安撫這班球迷。對於車路士球迷來說，相信他們最想知道，林柏特是否知情。

這次事件可能是一次開始。筆者曾撰文表示，跨國足球集團在近幾年形成，是一種全新的足球生態，由管理者到球迷都未適應甚至意會這種東西的存在，但林柏特這次風波或者可以給賽會及足總反思，如何面對跨國足球集團。當幾支球會由同一集團擁有時，當球員是屬於集團而非球會時，當球會只是一個大集團旗下的分店時，足球世界又會怎樣呢？

LAMPARD STATEMENT

Frank Lampard has offered a statement regarding his future at Manchester City and New York City FC, attempting to clear up any confusion.

I want to make it completely clear about my situation as I have read a lot of lies and nonsense over the last few days.
When released from Chelsea last year at the end of my contract I signed a commitment to play in NYCFC for two years starting January 1st 2015.
I was then offered the chance to train and be part of the Man City squad in the interim to keep myself in the best shape going into New York.
This period has since been extended by Man City and I now will start playing for NYCFC at the end of this current Premier League season.
There has always been a constant dialogue between all parties in this time to find the best solution for everyone.
I can say that I am very excited about arriving in New York and giving everything to the team to make us a success in the MLS as soon as possible.

Premier League: New York admit errors over Lampard deal with Manchester City

New York City have admitted they made mistakes in the way they announced details of Frank Lampard's contract situation.

The new MLS franchise said last summer that Lampard had signed a contract to join them on January 1 this year before announcing he would be joining Manchester City on loan until that date.

However, Lampard extended that loan until the end of the season on New Years Eve, prompting anger among New York fans, many of whom had bought season tickets and merchandise under the impression that he would be playing his football in America in 2015.

But New York City have now confirmed that Lampard only signed a "commitment" to his "intention" to play for the MLS franchise with the two clubs' parent company, City Football Group.

New York admitted the unveiling of Lampard as their contracted player last year was "a genuine error which throws everything into confusion (for media and fans). It wasn't a contract. It's an agreement with City Football Group with (his) intention to play for NYCFC."

New York City have moved to clarify the situation surrounding Lampard after the Premier League confirmed on Thursday evening that he is only contracted to Manchester City, and that the former England international did not have any formal contract with the new MLS franchise.

On Friday Lampard issued a statement of his own, in which he insists there has been no issues between the two clubs and that he still intends to move to New York this summer.

He said: "I want to make it completely clear about my situation as I have read a lot of lies and nonsense over the last few days. When released from Chelsea last year at the end of my contract, I signed a commitment to play in NYCFC for two years starting 1 January 2015.

"I was then offered the opportunity to train and be part of the Man City squad in the interim to keep myself in the best shape going into New York.

"This period has since been extended by Manchester City and I will now start playing for NYCFC at the end of the current Premier League season. There has always been a constant dialogue between all parties in this time to find the best solution for everyone.
