Sky sources: Leeds receive application from Robbie Fowler



Former Leeds, Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler has applied for the vacant manager's job at Elland Road, according to Sky sources.

Fowler, 39, made his name at Liverpool - scoring 183 goals in 369 appearances before Leeds paid £12m for his services in 2001.

Injury problems hampered the remainder of his career as he spent three years at Manchester City,

briefly returned to Anfield and played sporadically for Cardiff and Blackburn before leaving England for Australia in 2009.

Successful spells with North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory preceded a 2011 switch to Muangthong United in Thailand,

where he soon graduated to a player-coach role in the wake of Henrique Castilo's sacking.

Fowler returned to England and having failed to agree terms on a playing contract at Blackpool in 2012,

was interviewed for the Macclesfield Town job in May 2013 before the club opted to keep faith with caretaker boss John Askey.

Elland Road giants Leeds have been on the lookout for a new manager since chairman Massimo Cellino opted to sack David Hockaday last week.

Hasselbaink admits interest in Leeds job



Former Leeds United striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has admitted he would be interested in taking the manager's job at Elland Road.

The Dutchman has managerial experience having been in charge at Belgian club Royal Antwerp for a season and has also worked under Sean O'Driscoll at Nottingham Forest.

Leeds are without a manager after Dave Hockaday was dismissed after just six games at the helm.

Speaking on TalkSport, Hasselbaink said: "Leeds United is a wonderful big club where I had two great years. If they want to talk to me, of course I would talk [to them]."

"I've got experience, I know I could take the club forward and I know I can take the club back to where they need to go,

but what do Leeds United themselves want? That's the most important question."

Another former Leeds striker, Robbie Fowler, has also admitted his interest in becoming the boss at Elland Road.
