Manchester United profits plunge 84%

Manchester United has reported a sharp fall in annual profits despite record revenues for the year.

The football club said net income plunged 84% for the year to 30 June to £23.8m, from £146m a year ago.

Manchester United said its 2013 net income benefited from a tax credit of £155.2m, which it received from "US deferred tax assets".

Had it not received that tax credit, the club would have made a loss of £8.8m in 2013.

The club, majority-owned by the American Glazer family, said revenue increased 19% to £433.2m, compared with £363.2m a year earlier.

It expects revenue in 2015 to fall to between £385m and £395m, suggesting its failure to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years may be to blame.

Underlying profits were £130.1m for the year to 30 June, compared with £108.6m a year earlier.

It said it expected annual profits would fall next year to between £90m and £95m.

The results also showed that David Moyes and his back room staff received a total of £5.2m in compensation

following the former Manchester United manager's sacking in April after less than a year in the job.

In July, Manchester United announced a record breaking £750m 10-year shirt manufacturer sponsorship deal with Adidas,

after Nike decided to end its association with the club at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Nike had been given a period of exclusivity to negotiate an extension with United and also retained the right to match any other offer.

But the company decided against exercising either option, claiming the terms "did not represent good value for Nike's shareholders".

Champions League winner Real Madrid's £31m-a-year deal with Adidas was previously the biggest club deal.

Adidas will provide training and playing kit to all the club's teams and will have the exclusive right to distribute dual-branded merchandising products worldwide.

曼聯去季主要收入來自其官方產品的銷售，估計曼聯去年大約有500萬產品的銷量，當中包括200萬件球衣，事關曼聯近年每季都會重新設計他們比賽和訓練球衣，預期全球的球迷將有大量搶購。

Manchester United to announce record £420 million revenue after making £25m profit
Manchester United's total revenue is expected to be approximately £429m to £434m, an increase of 18 to 19 per cent

Manchester United are expected to announce record revenues on Wednesday of around £420 million for last season with a £25m profit helped by sales of two million replica shirts worldwide.

The annual results should also include details of pay-offs to former manager David Moyes and his coaching team, but the figures will not reflect any financial losses incurred from failing to qualify for Europe for this season.

The key results have already been flagged up in a prospectus released in August for a new release of shares on the New York Stock Exchange.

The prospectus states that total revenue is expected to be approximately £429m to £434m, an increase of 18 to 19 per cent. By comparison Real Madrid's turnover was £480m but that includes player sales.

Profit for the year is expected to be £23m to £25m - significantly down from the £146.4m for 2012-13 but that was mainly due to a one-off tax credit.

Approximately five million Manchester United-branded licensed products were sold last year including two million replica shirts.

Commercial revenue is expected to be up 25 per cent to around £190m due to pre-season tours and higher sponsorship renewals.

Operating costs are due to be up 20 per cent to £373m mainly due to expenditure on transfer fees and higher player wages.The prospectus states: "The Manchester United jersey and training wear are completely redesigned for each season. The annual launch of the new jersey is always a much-anticipated day for our global community of followers.

"The result is a robust wholesale apparel business that sold approximately five million items of Manchester United branded licensed products, including approximately two million replica jerseys, around the world in the last year."

The debt should be confirmed as £350m, with the cost of paying off the debt a similar level to the profits.

The prospectus said: "We currently estimate that our net finance costs will be approximately £26.5m to £28.5m."

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will take part in a conference call with investors after the results are released.

Manchester United have reported record annual revenue of £433.2million and profits of £23.8m for the financial year 2013-2014.
The club's sponsorship revenue increased by 49 per cent and commercial revenue soared nearly a quarter to £189.3m.
But it cost the club £5.2m to sack manager David Moyes and his coaching staff and
projections show their revenue is expected to fall by 10 per cent to between £385m-£395m in the current financial year because of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

United's wage bill rose 19 per cent to £214.8m, an increase of £34.3m, 'primarily due to the impact of player acquisitions and renegotiated player contracts', according to the annual report.
This is the first time United's wage bill has broken the £200m barrier and they are only the second club after Man City to exceed it.
This is before the summer acquisitions of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Marco Rojo, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera have their impact.
The figures also reveal United's sponsorship income increased by 49 per cent last year with a number of new deals coming on stream.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: 'We are very proud of the results achieved in fiscal year 2014
as we once again generated record revenues driven by our commercial and broadcasting businesses which delivered impressive year-over-year growth.

'We also recently announced a record-breaking deal with Adidas and very much look forward to launching this partnership next summer.

Woodward added that despite United's summer spending spree he expects the wage bill drop to due to the exits of high earns Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand Nemanja Vidic.  

United finished seventh in the Barclays Premier League last season, their lowest finish in the post-1992 era, and failed to make the Champions League for the first time since 1995.
It led to the dismissal of Moyes and the appointment of Louis van Gaal over the summer.
United have spent in the region of £150m over the summer on Di Maria, Herrera, Shaw, Rojo, Blind and Falcao as they bid to reassert their dominance in the top flight.
The club also concluded the largest kit sponsorship deal in history with Adidas, worth £750m over a 10-year period.
