Anelka signs new one-year Chelsea dealChelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at Stamford Bridge until summer 2012, the club have confirmed.
Having experienced a World Cup nightmare after being sent home from the France squad, Anelka admitted he was delighted to commit his club future to the Blues.
"When I first came to Chelsea I wanted to stay much longer than what I did in the past with other clubs," Anelka told the club's official website. "It is a big club, you play with big players and I like this club, I like London.
"There is no need to move anymore and so I am very glad to sign a new contract and I know we will play in big games and win titles. I am very glad.'
Anelka was signed by former boss Avram Grant from Bolton in 2008 and has gone on to play 123 times for the Blues, netting 42 goals.
Current Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti praised Anelka's abilities and revealed his delight at the striker's decision to sign a new deal.
"Nicolas is a fantastic player who has good technical qualities and movement," Ancelotti said. "When I was coach at Juventus I wanted to buy him, so it is good now he has signed for me and I think Chelsea is his home. I look forward to working with him for one year more."
