Transfer deadline day: Javier Hernandez joins Real Madrid



Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has joined Spanish side Real Madrid on a season-long loan.
Real have an option to buy the 26-year-old, who joined United from Guadalajara in 2010, at the end of the deal.
The Mexican international is surplus to requirements at United after they agreed to take Colombia striker Radamel Falcao on loan from Monaco.
European champions Real were looking to add to their attack following Alvaro Morata's £15.8m move to Juventus.
Hernandez, who is under contract with United until June 2016, will provide back-up at the Bernabeu for first-choice striker Karim Benzema.
Hernandez scored 20 goals in his debut season as United went on to win the Premier League title in 2010-11.
He added another league title in 2012-13 and has scored 37 times in 102 league appearances, although over half of those were as a substitute.
The striker helped Mexico reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Brazil,
scoring in the 3-1 group-stage win over Croatia to take his tally with the national team to 33 goals in 66 appearances.
Hernandez could make his debut for Real when they travel to Deportivo La Coruna in the Primera Division on 20 September.

Transfer news: Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez set for Real Madrid loan



Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed a season-long loan deal for striker Javier Hernandez which is expected to be completed on Monday, according to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

The Mexico international has grown increasingly frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford and has been linked with several clubs during the transfer window, including Valencia and Juventus.

Real Madrid have been linked with former Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao throughout the summer, but his club, Monaco, are thought to be holding out for a hefty loan fee for their prized asset.

Falcao's compatriot James Rodriguez has already moved to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer but Real appear to have turned their attention to 'Chicharito' to boost their striking options.

Speaking ahead of Villarreal's match against Barcelona, Balague said: "Manchester United and Real Madrid have agreed a one-year loan deal for Chicharito Hernandez to be a player of Real Madrid.

"Some may say that is surprising because they have lost a midfielder in Xabi Alonso, but they also lost (Alvaro) Morata and Ancelotti decided if they were going to get anybody it will be a Number 9.

"That's it, Real Madrid have got another striker."

Hernandez joined Manchester United from FC Guadalajara four years ago and has scored 59 goals in 154 appearances.

The 26-year-old's anticipated departure is the clearest indication that Danny Welbeck's future lies at Old Trafford following reports linking him with a move away from Manchester United this summer.
