Manchester United: Marcos Rojo deal agreed as Nani leaves

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Argentina defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon.
United said the deal, which Sporting say is worth £16m, is subject to a medical and personal terms.
Sporting have also confirmed Nani, 27, is returning on loan, seven years after the winger joined United from Lisbon.
Left-sided defender Rojo, 24, played in all six of Argentina's World Cup games on their run to the final in Brazil this summer.
The deal for Rojo had appeared imminent since the player told Argentine radio station Continental on Monday it would be a "dream to play at Manchester United".
Last week he refused to train with Sporting due to his frustration at not being allowed to leave, although he subsequently apologised.
" A further announcement will be made when the process is complete," said United in a message on the club's Twitter account  on Tuesday.
In a statement released to the Lisbon stock exchange  , Sporting released the payment schedule agreed with United for the player.
Sporting will receive £8m immediately, with further instalments of £4m being paid on 1 December this year and 1 July, 2015.
In addition they will get 20% of any sell-on fee for Rojo over £18.4million.
His versatility makes him a good fit for United manager Louis van Gaal's preferred 3-5-2 system.
Rojo, who joined Sporting from Spartak Moscow in July 2012, missed the Portuguese club's first league game of the season last weekend.
United have been searching for a central defender following the summer departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Van Gaal missed out on Thomas Vermaelen earlier this month after the Belgian opted to join Barcelona from Arsenal.
United have signed just two players since the end of last season.

Marcos Rojo: Manchester United bid for Argentina defender



Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo has handed in a transfer request and told his club he wants to be allowed to join Manchester United.
United have submitted a £15.9m (20m Euro) offer for Rojo, 24, who played for Argentina in the World Cup final.
Sporting, runners-up in Portugal's Primeira Liga, are considering the bid.
United manager Louis van Gaal has been looking for a central defender following the summer departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Van Gaal missed out on Thomas Vermaelen last week after the Belgian opted to join Barcelona from Arsenal.
Rojo has informed the Portuguese side he will no longer train with them until the situation is resolved to his satisfaction.
He played at left-back in every game of Argentina's World Cup campaign, including the final, when they lost 1-0 to Germany after extra-time.
He also scored in their 3-2 group game win against Nigeria in Porto Alegre.
Southampton have also expressed an interest in signing the defender.
Louis van Gaal will take charge of Manchester United for the first time at Old Trafford on Tuesday the Red Devils face Valencia in a pre-season friendly.
New signings Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are expected to make their home debuts.

Transfer news: Sporting to discipline Marcos Rojo as he pushes for move



Marcos Rojo is facing 'strong disciplinary measures' at Sporting Lisbon as he pushes for a summer transfer.

The Argentina international has handed in a transfer request and expressed a desire to link up with Manchester United.

In an effort to try and force the issue, the attack-minded full-back is refusing to train with his current employers.

Sporting are not about to bow to player pressure, though, and have informed Rojo, along with team-mate Islam Slimani, that unprofessionalism will not be tolerated.

Club president Bruno de Carvalho told Sporting TV: “They are subject to disciplinary action, but they are not in the B team.

“Both players took decisions that have provoked strong, internal disciplinary action.

“A general note: Any player who does not follow the rules of the club, these two or any others, they can do what they want, but it only complicates the issue.

“Don’t use the press, be professionals. These players are subject to strong disciplinary measures.

“They can’t play on Saturday, if they want they can watch the game at home.

“We’ll see, it could delay things a lot, it could drag things out a lot, but on Saturday it will not be resolved.”

De Carvalho has also been quick to point out that sales are not guaranteed this summer,

with it possible that the situation with Rojo and Slimani ‘could end with them seeing out their three-year contracts’.

Transfer news: Rojo's part-owners in row with Sporting over Manchester United bid

A row has broken out between the representatives and part-owners of Manchester United target Marcos Rojo and his club Sporting Lisbon.

Argentina defender Rojo is the subject of disciplinary action by the Portuguese club after he handed in a transfer request and refused to train amid reports of a bid from United.

Sky sources in Lisbon reported that United bid around £16million but it is believed Sporting are holding out for more as they only own 25 per cent of the player.

Management company Doyen Sports,

which owns 75 per cent of the player, has hit back at Sporting's stance and threatened legal action if fees due from any rejected bid are not paid.

It is reported that Doyen is entitled to a payment from Sporting worth 75 per cent of any declined offer for Rojo. In this instance that would equate to £12million.

In a statement, Doyen Sports has stressed it cannot interfere in transfer business and that Sporting have a right to retain the player who has a £24million release clause..

But it has pointed out that in such a scenario the club still have obligations to the company.

The statement read: "Sporting is entirely within its rights not to transfer the player Marcos Rojo,

knowing that it only has to make up for the fund under the terms and deadlines as contractually established since the beginning."

It added the company "will not hesitate to use all legal resources at our disposal to defend fully all our interests and rights".

Doyen holds strong rights over the player after paying 75 per cent of his transfer fee from Spartak Moscow in 2012.

The statement added: "Without the intervention of Doyen, through financing, Marcos Rojo would not be a Sporting player."

Sporting have responded with their own detailed statement which alleges interference from Doyen.

They insist they have had "just cause" to terminate their agreement with the company, therefore suggesting they do not intend to pay any fees.

Sporting have also confirmed that Spartak would be owed 20 per cent of any fee received for Rojo above £4million.

Manchester United are in discussions with Sporting Lisbon in an attempt to conclude Marcos Rojo's proposed move to Old Trafford.

A complicated contractual situation may turn into a legal row, with Rojo's advisors threatening action.
But with the start of the Premier League season approaching, United are attempting to resolve the issue through negotiation.
Rojo, who played for Argentina in the World Cup final, is training on his own after Sporting suspended him.
His representatives, Doyen Sports, believe they are owed 75% of the fee from any rejected bid.
It has said it will take "all necessary measures to defend its rights".
The potential for a long legal case is not something that suits United,
who will definitely be without Luke Shaw for Saturday's Premier League game with Swansea and also have an injury doubt over Jonny Evans.

Transfer news: Manchester United continue pursuit of Marcos Rojo

Manchester United are continuing talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal to sign Marcos Rojo, according to Sky sources.

United are unwilling to increase their bid of £16million for the Argentina defender, with reports in Portugal suggesting Sporting may accept that amount if a United player goes in the opposite direction on loan.

Sources suggest Rojo is unlikely to play for Sporting again. He was suspended by the club after refusing to train last week, and missed the club's league match on Saturday.

Rojo is now expected to make the move to Old Trafford but if the deal does fall through, United will turn their attention to Stuttgart's Antonio Rudiger.

Sporting have been holding out for more for Rojo as they only own 25 per cent of the player

Transfer news: Manchester United target Marcos Rojo apologises to Sporting

Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo will return to training on Monday after apologising for his behaviour as he attempted to push through an exit from the club.

Both Manchester United and Southampton have seen bids rejected by Sporting,

who were also angered by his agents and took back his full economic rights from sports investment company Doyen.

The Argentine World Cup star had been suspended by Sporting as he refused to train,

and he appeared to have played his last game for the club, but he has now issued a public apology via the club's own TV station.

"I was hot-headed and I'm sorry," said Rojo over his refusal to train.

"I'll be back with the rest of the [Sporting] squad tomorrow [Monday].

"Sporting signed me when I was not at my best and gave me the opportunity to play for a big club in Europe.

"I would like to thank the trust they had in me and I will resume training on Monday."

United are known to be continuing talks with Sporting, but their president Bruno Carvalho has always insisted that Rojo's buy-out clause of near £30million must be met to land him.
