Pienaar agent issues Everton contract ultimatumSteven Pienaar is ready to walk away from Everton if he is not offered an improved contract by the time the World Cup begins next month, according to his agent Ivan Modia.
Pienaar has one year left on his contract but discussions with the club have stalled, leading Modia to issue an ultimatum: offer the player an improved deal or he will look for a new club.
The Toffees have recently agreed new deals with Tim Cahill and Jack Rodwell, and opened discussions with Mikel Arteta and Leighton Baines, but Pienaar is still waiting on an improved offer from the club.
And Modia believes that if Everton fail to make that offer before South Africa's opening match on June 11, they will be confirming that they are happy to sell Pienaar, or let him leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Tottenham are reportedly waiting in the wings to make an offer for the South Africa international, who has been one of Everton's most influential players since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2007.
"My guess is that if, by the first match of the 2010 World Cup, we have been unable to take Steven an improved offer, then he will assumer that Everton's position is final," Modia said.
"The club are very busy concluding other players on long-term deals, most of whom have longer to run on their contract than Pienaar.
"That could mean one of three things: Either they wish to conclude other business before making a final offer, or it could mean that they have decided to sell him, or that they are satisfied that Pienaar walks away in 12 months as a free agent."
