Jose Mourinho: Chelsea boss refuses to speak after red card

Jose Mourinho refused to speak to the media after Chelsea's defeat at West Ham, after being sent to the stands by referee Jon Moss

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho refused to speak to the media after he was sent to the stands during his side's 2-1 defeat by West Ham.
On Friday, Mourinho had warned his relationship with the media would be changing after phone camera footage of him in west London was published.
"You don't get good and funny headlines from me now," Mourinho said.
Gary Cahill was the only Chelsea player to speak after the game, saying: "We are not feeling sorry for ourselves."
Cahill had levelled after Mauro Zarate put West Ham ahead, but Andy Carroll's late header gave the Hammers the points.
The derby defeat was Chelsea's fifth in their opening 10 league matches this season, and came after Mourinho, assistant first team coach Silvino Louro and midfielder Nemanja Matic were all sent off.
Louro was dismissed for his reaction to Matic's second booking before half-time, while Mourinho was shown a red card for comments he made to referee Jon Moss during the interval.
Mourinho watched most of the second half from the directors' box at Upton Park, but disappeared shortly after Carroll headed home West Ham's winner.
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic said that he had spoken to Mourinho after the match.
"I feel for him," Bilic said. "Decisions from his point of view have gone against him. I would moan if it was against us. But they are not mistakes; they are matters of opinion."
Mourinho has been caught up in controversy numerous times this season, including banishing team doctor Eva Carneiro from the bench and being handed a £50,000 Football Association fine and suspended stadium ban for saying officials were "afraid" to award his side penalties.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho facing FA rap after half-time outburst at West Ham

Last Updated: 25/10/15 9:38am

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could face further Football Association sanctions after being sent to the stands during his side’s defeat at West Ham on Saturday.

The Premier League champions' poor start to the new season continued at the Boleyn Ground, with a 2-1 loss condemning them to their fifth defeat of the campaign. It is their worst ever start in the Premier League.

Mourinho was banished from the touchlines at half-time following a first half which had Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic shown a red card for two bookable offences and Cesc Fabregas having a goal ruled out for offside.

Earlier this month, Mourinho was fined £50,000 and given a suspended stadium ban for criticising referee Robert Madley following his side's 3-1 home loss to Southampton on October 3.

If he is deemed to have brought the game into disrepute then the FA is likely to take action.

The Portuguese coach declined to speak to the media after defeat in east London which left Chelsea languishing in 15th place, with 11 points from their opening 10 matches.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has overseen 10 managerial changes during his 12 years in charge at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho remains the longest serving manager during the Abramovich-era, with his first stint at the club lasting just over three seasons.

Chelsea assistant coach Silvino Louro was also sent to the stands before half-time after remonstrating with the fourth official following Matic's sending off.

The Blues will face an automatic FA fine after receiving seven yellow cards during the loss to the Hammers, while they will be punished by the Premier League following Mourinho's failure to fulfil his post-match media requirements.

Gary Cahill cancelled out Mauro Zarate's opener early in the second half to give 10-man Chelsea hope of claiming a point, however Andy Carroll's late header ensured West Ham secured all three points.

Jose Mourinho erupted in tunnel with foul-mouthed rant at referee Jonathan Moss
  • Against West Ham, Jose Mourinho's staff were losing the plot as Jonathan Moss blew for half-time, yet he was calm as he walked down the tunnel
  • It was all an act, though. Inside he was a volcano, preparing to erupt
  • The Portuguese then launched into a foul-mouthed tirade at Moss

When all around him were in meltdown, Jose Mourinho seemed the coolest man in Upton Park.
As Nemanja Matic trudged off after picking up a second yellow card in less than 10 minutes, the Chelsea manager did not even flinch.
Mourinho watched as Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas were booked for dissent and his coach Silvino Louro was sent to the stands for intimidating fourth official Andy Woolmer.

His colleagues were losing the plot as referee Jonathan Moss blew for half-time, yet Mourinho was calm as he made his way down the tunnel.
It was all an act, though. Inside he was a volcano, preparing to erupt.
Sources claim the Portuguese was invited into the referees room by Moss at half-time in an attempt to defuse the powder-keg situation.
But it is suggested that Mourinho did not make it that far — instead the under-pressure boss is said to have blown his top, launching into a foul-mouthed tirade at Moss.
It was enough for the official to send Mourinho to the stands for the second half and Moss will file his report on the incident to the FA today.
The ferocity of the alleged verbal blast will determine whether the 52-year-old faces yet another charge.
However, disciplinary action would not automatically trigger the suspended stadium-ban hanging over him for his criticism of referee Bobby Madley after the home defeat by Southampton earlier this month.

That tiny glimmer of light will hardly register with Mourinho, though.
Nor will it with his superiors at Stamford Bridge, who are tired of the club’s image being dragged through the mud. Roman Abramovich, as ever, will keep his counsel on the latest indiscipline, but one can assume how the Chelsea owner is feeling.
Mourinho, Louro and Matic all being sent off is bad enough. But the club also face a separate charge for picking up seven bookings at Upton Park — plus the prospect of a fine for failing to fulfil their post-match media obligations.
Mourinho will feel the world is against him when he heads into the club’s Cobham HQ today ahead of their Capital One Cup clash at Stoke tomorrow.
He does, though, have a friend in West Ham manager Slaven Bilic. ‘It is very difficult to control your emotion on the touchline, especially if it happens a few games or months on the trot,’ said the Croat.
‘We are all human, no matter who you are coaching or how high are your wages. I feel for Mourinho.’

The dismissal meant Mourinho watched the second half from the Upton Park directors box, just a few yards away from West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold.
The east London club offered him a seat, but the former Real Madrid manager choose to stand for the rest of the match.
If there was a time to discover whether Mourinho had lost the dressing room then this was it. How would the reigning Barclays Premier League champions react?
Down to 10 men and their manager banished, it had capitulation written all over it. However, Gary Cahill clawed this beleaguered team back into the game.
It may not be glaringly obvious right now, but this team still has Mourinho’s siege mentality. The way they celebrated their goal was testament to that.

But this Chelsea team is brittle. The personalities that have characterised their era of dominance have gone.
Captain John Terry is still trying to hold it together, but even he could not prevent Andy Carroll from planting a deserved winner past Asmir Begovic.
Already standing, Mourinho was joined by the rest of the directors’ box as they rose to their feet to celebrate.
The look on Mourinho’s face said it all: I’m the Special One ... get me out of here.
You might just get your wish sooner than you think, Jose.

Chelsea to be fined £25,000 for bookings at West Ham

Chelsea will be fined £25,000 by the Football Association for receiving more than five bookings in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
The club will also be asked by the Premier League to explain why manager Jose Mourinho did not take part in a post-match news conference.
He was sent off at half-time, following the dismissal of his assistant Silvino Louro and midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The defeat was Chelsea's fifth in 10 league games this season.
It leaves the reigning champions in 15th place with 11 points, 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.
As well as the two yellow cards given to Matic, Chelsea also had Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, Jon Mikel Obi and Diego Costa booked at Upton Park.
On Friday, Mourinho warned that his relationship with the media would be changing after phone camera footage of him in west London was published.
Mourinho watched most of the second half from the directors' box at Upton Park, but disappeared shortly after Carroll headed home West Ham's winner and did not reappear to fulfil his post-match press duties.
The Premier League have confirmed that should a club fail to undertake media obligations, the governing body will write to them to obtain their reasons before deciding on any sanction.
It added that this can range from a warning to a fine, with each case looked at on its merits.
The Football Association is awaiting referee Jon Moss's report on the game, which is expected to detail why Mourinho was sent off.
Mourinho also received a suspended stadium ban this month, imposed for claiming officials were "afraid" to award his team penalties in the aftermath of the 3-1 home defeat by Southampton on 3 October.
However, his sending-off at Upton Park is likely to constitute a separate misconduct charge and would not trigger the stadium ban.

Jose Mourinho: Chelsea manager charged by FA with misconduct

Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association over his language and behaviour in Chelsea's defeat by West Ham United.
Mourinho was sent to the stands after going to speak to referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time on Saturday.
Both clubs have been charged for failing to control their players and have until 29 October to respond.
Chelsea are already facing a £25,000 fine for receiving more than five bookings in the Premier League loss.
As well as the two yellow cards given to Nemanja Matic, Chelsea also had Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, John Mikel Obi and Diego Costa booked at Upton Park.
Mourinho's assistant Silvino Louro was also dismissed during the match and has been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour in the technical area.

The club is also going to be asked by the Premier League to explain why Mourinho did not take part in the post-match news conference.

On Friday, Mourinho warned that his relationship with the media would be changing after phone camera footage of him in west London was published.
Mourinho watched most of the second half from the directors' box at Upton Park, but disappeared shortly after Carroll headed home West Ham's winner to make it 2-1, and did not reappear to fulfil his post-match press duties.

The defeat was Chelsea's fifth in 10 league games this season and leaves the reigning champions in 15th place with 11 points, 11 behind leaders Manchester City.
Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey said that Mourinho should apologise after his recent outbursts.
"I've known him a long time and he wears his heart on his sleeve," Halsey told BBC Sport. "But sometimes you have to take a step back and think about what you are saying. When you are criticising the referee and his integrity then we can't do that.
"Sometimes it would be good to see Jose be honest and come out and apologise for what he says to referees."
