World Cup dream over for KuranyiKevin Kuranyi has made 52 appearances for Germany.Germany coach Joachim Löw will not be including FC Schalke 04 striker Kevin Kuranyi in his provisional squad for the World Cup in South Africa. The Germany boss insisted that "the disciplinary problems of October 2008 did not play a role in my decision. It wasn't a problem to give him another chance at international level. After careful consideration among the training staff, we decided that we are looking for a different approach at the World Cup both in terms of tactics and personnel. I told Kevin, who has had a fantastic season and who I consider to be a consummate professional, in a completely open manner.
Every player's dreamKuranyi himself was disappointed with the news: "Like every footballer, I've been dreaming about playing at a World Cup since I was a little kid. The opportunity has been taken away from me twice now, so obviously it's a very disappointing decision from my point of view," said the S04 frontman.
"Many thanks for all the support I've received over the last few months, it did me a world of good," continued the Brazil-born attacker. Schalke boss Felix Magath shared his frustration: "It's a shame for Kevin. He's had a great season for Schalke 04 and I think he deserved a place at the World Cup. The decision is final, but I can understand his disappointment."
Experimental against MaltaLöw is expected to reveal his initial World Cup squad this Thursday at 12:00 CET at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. The final 23 players who will be travelling to South Africa will be announced on 1 June 2010 at the squad's training camp in South Tirol.
With several regulars, including the likes of captain Michael Ballack tied up with domestic cup finals in the approach to the benefit match against Malta on 13 May, Löw is expected so select a number of players from the U21 squad.
Chelsea midfielder Ballack, as well as several stars from DFB Cup finalists Werder Bremen, will link up with the squad at the regeneration camp in Sicily, while the Bayern München representatives in the squad will head straight for Tirol following their Champions League final against Inter Milan on 24 May.
