Manchester United are ready to shatter the world-record transfer fee by spending £100million on Juventus superstar Paul Pogba.Contact has been made between the clubs over the 23-year-old Frenchman and Sportsmail can reveal that United are prepared to pay him £300,000 a week on a five-year contract.Pogba is open to joining Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and his agent, Mino Raiola, is at the centre of negotiations.
Raiola also represents Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who joined United for free from Paris Saint-Germain. Ed Woodward, the United vice-chairman, is orchestrating the £100m move while Pogba is at the European Championship with France and he is set to start against Germany in their semi-final.
Juventus told United they will have to pay a world-record transfer fee to land him, beating Gareth Bale’s £86m switch to Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.
United lost Pogba to Juventus in 2012 for nothing under Sir Alex Ferguson but the star wants to return to prove himself in the Premier League after four Serie A titles in Italy.
Pogba would become Mourinho’s fourth signing after he snapped up Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly and Borussia Dortmund’s £26m striker Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has signed a four-year deal after completing a medical on Wednesday.
Speaking at his press conference earlier this week, Mourinho said: ‘We made a nucleus of four priorities, four positions to give a certain balance to the squad, to give a certain push in terms of quality and the qualities I need and want.
‘I am more a manager that likes specialists and not so much the multi-functional players.
