Everton told they must pay £45m for Gylfi Sigurdsson as Swansea insist they will 'not be pushed around'- Everton continue to chase a deal for Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson
- The Icelander is Ronald Koeman's latest target during a busy summer
- Swansea have told Everton they must pay upwards of £45million for Sigurdsson
- The Toffees are hoping to do a deal worth around £35m for the Swansea player
- Leicester have shown willing to go above the £40m mark for the creative star
Swansea have told Everton they want upwards of £45m for playmaker Gylfi SigurdssonThe Premier League club are aware of increasing interest in Sigurdsson from Everton and also from Leicester City.
Everton hope to do a deal somewhere near the £35m mark but sources at Swansea indicated today that the Welsh club will not sell for less than £45m. Ideally, that figure would be edged up towards £50m by various playing-related add-ons.A source close to the Swansea board told Mail Online today:
‘Swansea will not be pushed around and are not looking to sell.‘They have a figure in mind that they feel represents Sigurdsson’s worth in the market and if nobody reaches that they are very comfortable about keeping him.’Sigurdsson is attracted by a move to Merseyside but is not currently agitating for a move.
Everton have not yet made a formal bid but Leicester have been in touch with Swansea to indicate they would be prepared to go above £40m for the player, especially if they lose their own playmaker Riyad Mahrez.
Tottenham considered a bid for their former player earlier in the summer but that interest has now faded.
Everton have already invested in a host of players this summer including England international defender Michael Keane and now Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and it seems they are going to have to go to extra mile if they want to add Sigurdsson to the list.
Swansea believe Sigurdsson is one of the best forwards in the Premier League and should be valued as such.Last season, for example, Sigurdsson scored nine league goals in a relegation-threatened team and contributed 13 assists. This was more than Ross Barkley – five league goals - who Everton themselves have told suitors they value at £50m.
Sigurdsson was the only player in the bottom half of the Premier League who had more than 20 goals and assists combined, third behind Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City and Christian Eriksen of Tottenham.
The 27-year-old has also only missed just one Premier League match in three seasons and all these statistics mean that Swansea are not keen to sell unless the price is right.
