Really really really want us to grab a win here. The last 5 league meeting with Chelsea ended up as a lost. Haven't win them for a long long time now!

Which 2 of the 3 strikers will Rafa play will be an interesting point. Bellamy created so many trouble to the defenders that I wouldn't consider dropping him. But Crouch just scored twice and is high in confidence. My pick will be Bellamy + Kuyt, with Crouch substitutes for Kuyt if things go well for us with his ball-holding ability, or play 3 strikers again with Crouch as the receiving of odd high balls and others picking the second balls.

Another interesting point is if Rafa will start with Pennant. Pennant seems to be the only choice on the right wing, but not quite throughout the season. There were a few choices:

1) Play Pennant in a 442 formation
2) Play Gerrard on the right with Sissoko/Zenden at center (no longer applicable)
3) Play L.Garcia on the right (no longer applicable)
4) Play Finnan+Riise as the wing in a 352 formation, with Aggers+Carragher+Hyypia starting
5) Play Finnan+Aurelio/Riise as the wing in a 343 formation (only attempted once)

1) or 4) should be the more sensible solution.

Weak point to exploit: Khalid Boulahrouz

The center back is significantly in my mind responsible for the leakage of defense in Chelsea's game. We must capitalize on his mistakes!


Now that J.Cole and L.Garcia who tend to score in this fixture are both not available, I think we are on a equal term on the "luck" factor. The rest is the quality of manager and the determination of the players on the field!

One more remark.

Throughout the season, we haven't seen much connection between our full back and wings. I know this could easily be a finger-pointing towards Rafa's rotational policy, but also the players take some blame. Finnan and Riise have been our fullback for the whole season so far. It's safe to say every winger in the team should already know almost every move and every run they are capable to do. Yet, our wingers just can't accomodate our fullbacks, or vice versa.

Especially the right-hand-side pair, Finnan + Pennant. They have been given so much chance that they almost always share some play time on the field every game. Any real spark? You judge. I can't remember the last time they do an overlap run, a one-two, or just one creating space for the other. To me, I see they playing together for half a season like they partner each other the first time.

And the left side is not great too, but it's more complicated with the rotation policy. Except some spark between Riise and Aurelio in the beginning of the season, I again don't recall Riise partner too well any of our wingers.

With the like of Crouch + Kuyt at the center, may be that's something we need to work on. Last game VS Watford, we saw how effective it could be when Bellamy runs down the flank and provide the cross. Against better teams, we need those wingers and fullbacks to get down there to provide the quality cross. Time to give our best if we are still striving for that 2nd spot!!!

Hehe...turned out it's long ball + wing play tactic. Somehow we very easily got passed Geremi and Ashley Cole this game.

Hey, this is my prediction:

"As long as we have a reasonable number of injuries in the team, we can keep performing in high standard and deliver results in a week-in-week-out faction"

Weird to say, but when Rafa doesn't have any choice with who to start, he is forced to play with the same starting XI. Zenden is out, Garcia is out, Sissoko is still out. And that give time for the squad to gain some understanding and trust with players around them. Hopefully in turn, Rafa will see what his boys is able to do with the selection stability, and get a balance between customizing to deal with opposition team and team selection consistency.

Well, I just believe manager is human too. They make mistakes, but also they are capable to learn from them. While at any time they think us fans are not looking at the big picture, we feel they are not looking at some simple basic stuff game by game. From the vision and coaching skill, I wouldn't trade Benitez with any of the like of Houllier or Evans, or any other manager who needs to learn the team, the staff, the English football all over again. Let's work together for the 2nd spot!!
