Manchester United and Internazionale are ?13.5m apart in their valuation of Romelu Lukaku after the Premier League club turned down an opening offer of ?70m paid over two years.

The Inter sporting director, Piero Ausilio, was in London on Thursday to discuss a potential transfer of the Belgium international but, as expected, no solution was found on the day.

The player is keen to make the move but United value him at ?83.5m (£75m) and the Serie A club will now have to decide whether to make a new offer or miss out on a player their new manager, Antonio Conte, desperately wants to sign.

Inter’s first offer comprised a ?10m payment for the loan this summer and then further instalments of ?30m in 2020 and ?30m in 2021.

Lukaku wants to leave Old Trafford after two years at the club after losing his place at times last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Belgian scored 27 goals in his first season at the club but managed only 15 in 2018-19. He joined United from Everton for £75m plus £15m in add-ons in July 2017.

Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku looks increasingly likely to be staying at Manchester United.

It had been expected Inter Milan would try and sign Lukaku, 26, following the appointment of long-time admirer Antonio Conte as manager.

However, there has been no bid tabled so far. Even if one were to be, United would want in excess of the £75m they paid Everton for him two years ago.

Lukaku has scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils.

Sources are adamant United have not put a price on the player, who still has three years left on his contract.

But it is felt in the current inflated market - United have been quoted £50m to sign untested Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff - the club would not allow the second most expensive player in their history to leave without making a profit.

Inter, having only got clear of Uefa's additional financial fair play monitoring in May after previous breaches, are understood to be in a situation where they need to sell before they can sanction such a significant purchase.

Their current transfer record is the £44.5m they paid for striker Christian Vieri in 1999.

Manchester United likely to demand fee of around £90m from Inter for Romelu Lukaku

Inter Milan are likely to have to cough up around £90 million to stand any chance of signing Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United this summer.

Despite Piero Ausilio, the Inter sporting director, meeting with United officials in London on Friday, the Italian club have still to make a formal offer for Lukaku.

Inter had been proposing a deal that would involve paying £9 million to loan Lukaku for two seasons with an obligation to buy at the end of that term for a further £53.7 million.

But United - who are under no pressure to sell, despite Lukaku’s desire to join Inter - would only be tempted by a cash deal and have no intention of allowing the Belgium striker to leave on the cheap.

United paid Everton £75 million for Lukaku in 2017 but the Merseyside club would be due an additional £5 million windfall if the player was to leave this summer and it seems likely that United would seek a substantial increase on £80 million in what is proving a vastly inflated transfer market.

Antonio Conte, the Inter coach, believes his club’s chances of signing Lukaku are likely to hinge on being able to offload Mauro Icardi to free up cash but there have yet to be any takers for the Argentina striker, despite some interest from Juventus.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the United manager, made a point of insisting this week that United will not overpay for players but, equally, the club have no intention of allowing valuable assets to leave on the cheap and will drive a hard bargain if approaches are made for their own players. Having been quoted £50 million for Newcastle midfielder, Sean Longstaff, who has made just nine Premier League appearances, there is recognition an inflated market works two ways.

國際米蘭要得到曼聯前鋒盧卡古（Romelu Lukaku）的效力似乎並不簡單，當中細節千絲萬縷、環環相扣。英國《曼徹斯特晚報》指，曼聯為這位比利時前鋒開價7500萬鎊，國米的體育總監奧斯里奧已抵倫敦與曼聯商討。不過這個轉會仍有兩個可能性，一是國米以莫路伊卡迪作為籌碼之一，與曼聯「換人」；另一個可能方式就是國米先於意甲賣走伊卡迪，再將資金投放在盧卡古身上。

Inter boss Antonio Conte says Romelu Lukaku would improve his side, but admits there are factors standing in the way of him signing the striker from Manchester United.

Inter are keen on the Belgian but are yet to meet United's valuation of the player, who cost them £75m to sign from Everton two years ago.

He will not play for United against Inter in Singapore on Saturday.

"You know I like this player," said Conte.

"In the past when I was Chelsea's coach [from 2016 to 2018] I tried to bring him to Chelsea.

"As I said before, I like this player and consider him an important player for us to have a good improvement but at the same there is a transfer market.

"We know very well which is our situation at the moment and we will see what happens but for now Lukaku is a United player."

Inter's move for Lukaku is thought to hinge on the future of Mauro Icardi, who has not travelled on the club's summer tour of Asia amid reports he is to leave.

When asked about the Argentine striker, Conte replied: "The situation is very clear, the club was very clear that Icardi is out of Inter's project. This is the reality."

When pressed on Lukaku's future at United, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he had "no more updates".

Lukaku missed both United's tour matches in Australia due to injury and Solskjaer says he will remain absent.

"He's not fit. He won't be available," said the United boss.

The 26-year-old did not play an active part in training on Friday, instead undergoing some individual fitness work before making his way to the bench, where he sat next to a United staff member for over half an hour.
