Toronto FC announce signings of Torsten Frings and Danny Koevermans as Designated PlayersThe two veterans will help solidify the midfield and attack of the Eastern Conference's last placed team.
Toronto FC announced Wednesday it has signed two veterans from Europe: 34-year-old German midfielder Torsten Frings, and 32-year-old Dutch striker Danny Koevermans. Both will be Designated Players.
Frings, a defensive midfielder, was a free agent after his contract with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen ran out at the end of the season. He has played his entire professional career in Germany, winning a Bundesliga title in 2004-05 with Bayern Munich. He is best known, however, for his two spells spanning 12 years at Werder Bremen.
He has also been capped 79 times for Germany, and was a member of the German team at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, and the 2008 European Championships. His final cap for the national team came in February 2009.
Koevermans joins from PSV in the Eredivisie, where he had been since 2007. He's been a profilic scorer in his career, scoring 136 times in an 11-season run in Holland, which has seen him play for Sparta Rotterdam, AZ Alkmaar, and finally PSV.
He has also been capped four times for the Dutch national team, scoring one goal.
Both players can't make their TFC debut until after July 15, when the international transfer window reopens.
