City open title defence against Saints

Champions Manchester City begin their defence of the Premier League title at home to newcomers Southampton when the 2012-13 season kicks off on August 18.

Roberto Mancini's City - who clinched the title with two injury-time goals against QPR on the final day of the season - then face a tough away trip to Anfield.

Manchester United, pipped at the post by their neighbours, begin the season with a visit to Everton. Roberto Di Matteo's first match as the permanent Chelsea manager is away to Wigan, so impressive in the latter stages of the season, while Arsenal host Sunderland and Newcastle are at home to Tottenham.

Brendan Rodgers takes his bow as Liverpool manager on the road at West Bromwich Albion - where last season's Anfield assistant manager Steve Clarke has taken charge - while Reading kick off their return to the Premier League at home to Stoke and play-off winners West Ham provide Paul Lambert's first test as Aston Villa manager.
