Rayo Vallecano had challenged their UEFA license refusal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.The appeal lodged by Rayo Vallecano with the Court of Arbitration forSport (CAS), to overturn the rejection of their UEFA license, has beenrejected.
As the highest placed team in La Liga to potentially take advantageof Málaga’s European ban, Rayo Vallecano were hoping to receive theirUEFA license, which would have permitted them to compete in the EuropaLeague this coming season.
After the Spanish Federation (RFEF) refused to grant them a licenseon the grounds of the club being in administration, Rayo Vallecanoprotested strongly, claiming that their debts were secured and paymentswere being made on time. They appealed to CAS to overturn this decision,but last month their case was rejected. Appealing this ruling, theircase was again heard, but again rejected, on Friday at a hearing inMadrid.
Although Rayo Vallecano have the right to further appeals, these willnot be heard before the draw for the preliminary stages of the EuropaLeague are drawn, effectively ruling out their participation.
Sevilla, who had been granted the qualification spot, pending theoutcome of Rayo’s appeals, are now guaranteed to be in the Europa Leaguedraw.
