Schalke interested in Tottenham striker Adebayor but wages could prove an issue
Schalke are interested in signing Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor before Monday's transfer deadline.
The German club are keen to sign a new striker to partner Dutch international Klass-Jan Huntelaar and Adebayor is available.
With Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas favouring a 4-3-3 formation with just one main striker, Adebayor is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.
The Portuguese splashed £26million on Valencia forward Roberto Soldado earlier this summer and the Spanish international has already forced his way past Jermain Defoe into the club's starting XI.
Tottenham have also signed winger Nacer Chadli, midfielders Paulinho and Etienne Capoue and defender Vlad Chiriches.
The north London side are also on the verge of tying up deals for attacking midfield duo Erik Lamela of Roma and Ajax's Christian Eriksen, leaving Adebayor free to move on.
