MLS: Frank Lampard to join New York in July
New York City has confirmed that Frank Lampard has signed a contract to play for the fledgling MLS team and will join up with the squad in July. The MLS issued a statement on Saturday which reads: "Frank Lampard has signed a contract for NYCFC," with the 36-year-old midfielder heading Stateside at the end of the Premier League season in England.
The last few months have been riddled with confusion over his furture, after it was originally announced that the ex-Chelsea and England player had joined New York on a two-year deal last summer.
But he was immediately loaned to parent club Manchester City for whom he has impressed this current term.
Many thought he would only remain at the Etihad Stadium until the end of December before travelling to America for the MLS season which begins in March.
However, it was then revealed he will stay in Manchester until May and now
it has been confirmed that Lampard will join up with NYFC midway through the franchise's first season in the MLS.Lampard said in an interview with The Times: "I have signed for New York.
"The original intention was for that to start on January 1. I signed for Man City and have extended my period here and will join New York later.
"And in terms of Man City being sneaky, they could have signed me on a free anyway if that's what they wanted to do.
“The fact is I signed for New York, then I signed for Man City in the interim and now it has been extended.''
