Pellegrini hoping for Milner deal 'in the next few days'



Manuel Pellegrini says he is delighted to have ‘dangerous’ striker Sergio Aguero back in action as his side look to recover from Saturday’s slip-up against Everton.

And the City boss has revealed that James Milner could be set to hand him a double boost by ending his long-running contract wrangle in the coming days.

Milner, whose current deal expires in the summer, is believed to be on the radar of Liverpool ahead of a potential free transfer.

But Pellegrini remains calm about the issue and said: “I hope that James will stay here and he will sign his contract in the next few days.”

The Blues suffered a minor setback in their pursuit of the Premier League title at the weekend as Steven Naismith’s late equaliser saw them held to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

But their long-term prospects of retaining the crown were undoubtedly aided by the return of Aguero after a lengthy absence through injury.

James Milner deal still 'possible' insists Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he is hopeful James Milner will agree a new deal at the club.

The 29-year-old England midfielder has been embroiled in protracted talks over a new long-term contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Serie A club Roma are reported to be interested in the former Newcastle and Aston Villa player and Pellegrini has suggested any dispute is not about money.

"Maybe City have already offered all that the club can offer, maybe it's not about more money, maybe there are different things to sign a new contract," he said.

"You must ask James what is happening with him. I hope he will find an arrangement, and I think it's possible."

Milner, who has 53 international caps, signed for Manchester City for £26million in 2010 and has made 186 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals.

He began his career at hometown club Leeds United before moving to Newcastle for £3.6m in 2004 and then Villa for £12m in 2008.
