Liverpool FC pair Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Coutinho nominated for Manager and Player of the Month



Philippe Coutinho and Brendan Rodgers have been nominated for the Barclays Player and Manger of the Month awards for February.

Reds boss Rodgers is one of four nominees for the managers’ award, while Coutinho heads the six-man shortlist for the players’ version.

Rodgers, who guided the Reds to two wins and a draw from their three Premier League fixtures in February, will face competition from Swansea City’s Garry Monk, who he faces on Monday night, Steve Bruce of Hull City and new West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis.

Coutinho, meanwhile, will go up against Spurs striker Harry Kane, who won the award for January, Dame N’Doye of Hull, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil and West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster. Former Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, now of Swansea, is also shortlisted.

Coutinho’s games in February included appearances against Everton, Spurs and Southampton, in the latter scoring with a glorious long range shot. His winner against Man City though will not count towards the award as it was played a day late, on March 1.

The last Liverpool players to pick up Player of the Month were Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, who shared the award back in March 2014. Rodgers picked up the managers’ award that month, his third in total and second with Liverpool.

The winners will be announced at 10am on Friday morning.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis is Manager of the Month for February



West Brom boss Tony Pulis has won the Premier League Manager of the Month for February.

Albion have lost just one league game in the past two months under Pulis, taking 13 points from the 24 available.
In February West Brom earned draws at Burnley and Sunderland, while beating Swansea and Southampton at The Hawthorns

And the former Stoke and Crystal Palace manager is convinced another 10 points will be enough to keep West Brom in the Premier League for next season, when he plans to reshape his squad.

Pulis said: “It’s a fabulous month and we needed a month like that really to give us the impetus hopefully to push on and get the points that we need.

“There are 10 games to go and were are still desperately in need of the points – 10 more points, if we can get 10 more points we get to 40 points, we’ll be OK.

“The supporters will be absolutely delighted for us just to get through this.

“I think they understand and they know there will be lots of changes at the end of the season right through the club, so we just need to get through this period.”

Tottenham striker Harry Kane wins the Premier League Player of the Month award



Tottenham striker Harry Kane has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for the second time in succession.

Kane added the February prize to his January gong, and joins former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler, ex-Arsenal talisman Dennis Bergkamp and former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo in picking up back-to-back awards.
The 21-year-old is already excited at the prospect of becoming the first player to claim Player of the Month three times running.

And Kane has started March well, scoring both goals in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

“To make history would be something very special,” Kane said. “Obviously I’ve scored a couple so far this month.

“Still a few more games to go, so hopefully I’ll get a few more goals and we’ll see what happens, but I’m looking forward to the games ahead.”

Kane did not make his first league start for Spurs until November, but he has scored 16 league goals this season.

“It’s happened quite fast but I’ve always said I had belief in myself. I just waited for the chance, been patient, and being ready to take it, and I think I’ve been able to do that.

“I’ve just loved every minute of playing. I’m enjoying my football so much at the moment playing with my mates, we have a great team and a great squad, and looking forward to the rest of the games.”
