Juventus interested in signing Heiko Westermann, says player's agent Last Updated: 05/08/15 11:42am
Serie A champions Juventus are interested in signing former Hamburg defender Heiko Westermann, according to the player’s agent. The Bianconeri are thought to have shown an interest in the former Germany international who is currently a free agent following his release from the Bundesliga club this summer. With Juve defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli currently sidelined through injury, the 31-year-old may be the man to fill a void in the Bianconeri's defence this season.
"There are talks and Juventus have actually been interested for a long time now," Westermann's agent Reza Fazeli told Hamburger Abendblatt.
"It's been a long and lasting interest, but we're only sticking to the facts and are not getting ahead of ourselves." Westermann is currently keeping himself fit at German second division side Arminia Bielefeld while he continues to find a new employer.
And he told Italy's Tuttosport that a move to Turin would be tempting.
"It would be a great honour to play for Juventus," he said. "Since my contract ended at my former club, I've had plenty of offers, but at the moment I want to try something abroad.
"To be able to do that at one of the biggest, most prestigious clubs in the world like the Bianconeri would not be bad at all."
Capped 27 times by Germany, Westermann was an almost ever-present for the northern Germany club last season, although his contract was not renewed this summer.
