Wigan Athletic can confirm that highly experienced former Finland International goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen has joined the club after his contract with West Ham United expired this summer.
Jaaskelainen played over 500 matches for Bolton Wanderers in all competitions before making the switch to Upton Park, where he played 57 times in the league. He also has 59 caps for his country.
After completing a medical and putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the DW Stadium, Latics manager Gary Caldwell said:
“Jussi has had a tremendous career and was consistently one of the top keepers in the Premier League. He is still in fantastic condition and as well as providing great competition in the squad, his experience will be invaluable on and off the park.”
Jaaskelainen first signed for Bolton in 1997, going on to play 474 league games for Wanderers before linking back up with former manager Sam Allardyce at Upton Park in 2012. He was the scourge of Latics on several occasions, putting in dazzling displays both at the DW Stadium and the Reebok Stadium.
