West Ham striker Andy Carroll shock move to Sevilla falls through after Juventus pull plug on Simone Zaza deal to Upton Park- Andy Carroll was linked with a shock loan move to La Liga side Sevilla
- However, the one-time England international has seen the move collapse
- Carroll would have moved had Simone Zaza's £11.5m move been ratified
- Zaza leaving Juventus would have meant Fernando Llorente remaining
- Juventus allowed Llorente to join Sevilla after pulling plug on Zaza move
Andy Carroll has seen the chance of a shock move to Sevilla collapse at the eleventh hour after West Ham bid to sign Simone Zaza fell through. The one-time England international, who has been working his way back to fitness following a knee injury, would have moved to La Liga had Zaza's £11.5million move been ratified.
Zaza leaving Juventus would have meant Spain international Fernando Llorente staying with last season's Champions League finalists and Sevilla would then have taken Carroll initially on a season long-loan.But the knock-on effect of Juventus pulling the plug on Zaza's switch to Upton Park had ramifications for Carroll, as it meant the Serie A club were happy to let Llorente move to Sevilla on a deal worth £75,000 per week.Sevilla were able to conclude that transfer within the space of 10 hours and it all meant that Carroll will continue at Upton Park, as he seeks to get his career back on track following serious fitness issues.
The move to Spain, however, was a long way down the line and while it would have initially been a loan, Sevilla would have had an obligation to buy Carroll for ?12million if he played 60% of their games.
Carroll, who has not played for West Ham since February 16 and is still some way short of peak fitness, has endured a difficult time in the capital since he moved from Liverpool two years ago.
It remains to be seen what role he will have for new manager Slaven Bilic when he is back up to speed, as West Ham are continuing their search for a new striker.
This has been a hugely frustrating window for Bilic in terms of recruiting a forward, as he has missed out on a number of targets, including Raul Jiminez, who joined Benfica from Atletico Madrid.
West Ham are looking to recruit Rob Green from QPR before the transfer window closes but that deal is not as close as it was seven days ago, as the clubs remain deadlocked over transfer terms.
