Newcastle agree £12m deal to sign Jacob Murphy from Norwich

Newcastle have agreed a deal in the region of £12m to sign Norwich winger Jacob Murphy, according to Sky sources.

The 22-year-old has been one of the newly-promoted side's principle targets this summer and is now set to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

Sky sources reported last week that Newcastle had seen an £8m offer rejected and Murphy's representatives subsequently met with Canaries officials last Thursday to try and push the move through.

Sky Sports News HQ understands Crystal Palace, Southampton, Swansea and West Bromwich Albion had previously shown an interest in Murphy, who starred for England's U21s at the recent European Championships in Poland.

He scored an important goal against the hosts in the group stage that helped England ensure a place in the semi-finals.

Murphy is a graduate of Norwich City's academy and signed a new deal at the club only last November. He previously spent time on loan at Swindon, Southend, Blackpool, Scunthorpe, Colchester and Coventry.

Jacob Murphy: Norwich City winger closing in on Newcastle United move

Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy is set to discuss personal terms prior to his proposed £12m move to newly promoted Premier League side Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old came through the Canaries' youth ranks and scored 10 goals in 41 appearances last season.

BBC Radio Norfolk understands the England Under-21 international is also set to have a medical at the Magpies.

Murphy has made 122 senior career appearances, including those during his six loans away from Norwich.

Jacob Murphy joins Newcastle from Norwich

Newcastle have signed winger Jacob Murphy from Norwich.

Sky Sports News understands the fee to be £10m, but could rise to £12m with appearance related add-ons.

Murphy passed a medical in Dublin on Tuesday before training with his new team-mates for the first time on Wednesday.

He becomes manager Rafa Benitez's third signing of the summer following the additions of winger Christian Atsu and defender Florian Lejeune.

"It was a childhood dream of mine to represent Newcastle and the opportunity is now here. I can't wait to get started," Murphy told the club's website.

Murphy scored 10 times for Norwich last season and was one of the standout performers for England at this summer's U21 European Championship in Poland.

Benitez added: "He's a young and talented player and hopefully he can develop even more here.

"We hope he can show us the passion, commitment and ability that he showed in the Championship last season."
