Official: Grafite leaves Wolfsburg to join Al-Ahli
The Brazilian striker, who formed such a potent partnership with Edin Dzeko when his side won the Bundesliga, has ended his time in Germany and has moved to the Middle East
Brazilian striker Grafite has brought down the curtain on an illustrious four-year spell with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, leaving the club for Dubai based outfit Al-Ahli with whom he has signed a two-year contract.
Although he scored nine goals in the most recent Bundesliga campaign, he was unable to recapture his best form following the departure of strike-partner Edin Dzeko, which wreaked havoc back in 2008-09 when Wolfsburg were surprise Bundesliga champions.
"I would like to thank the club for four brilliant years in a fantastic country and at a wonderful club,” Grafite told Wolfsburg’s official website. “I have made many friends in this time period, who will always remain with me.
"I have had many successes here - I was German player of the year, I won the league title and I was the league's top goalscorer. Now at the age of 32, it is time for me and my family to try something new."
Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath, who signed Grafite from Le Mans in his first spell in charge, paid tribute to the striker and enthused: "Grafite will always be a part of Wolfsburg’s history and his name will always be associated with the championship win.
“Together with Edin Dzeko, he had an extraordinary season. I wish him all the best for his new challenge."
