KEHL TO END CAREER IN DORTMUND Dortmund -
Following his side's 3-0 win over Hannover 96, Borussia
Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl has commited his short-term future to the club by putting pen to paper on a one year contract extension.Having made 321 appearances in all competitions -
winning three Bundesliga titles and the DFB Cup - since joining from SC Freiburg in 2001, the midfielder has confirmed that
he will call time on his playing career at the end of next season after 13 years with the club. One last hurrah! "Borussia Dortmund, our wonderful team, the fans and the city of Dortmund have been my home for many years now," explained the 31-time Germany international. "It is for that reason that I've decided maintain that connection!
As a result I have reached the decision to end my career as a professional footballer in 2015 in the hope that I can enjoy some unforgettable moments and
continued success before then with this incredible team.
I'm delighted to be spending one final season in the Bundesliga. However, the time for me to start a new chapter of my life is not far away now, which makes me just as happy."
Kehl has featured just 13 times in the current Bundesliga campaign, making eight starts, but has nonetheless played a pivotal role in Dortmund's fortunes
both on and off the pitch. "Sebastian is an important leader, boasts a wealth of experience and, on top of that, has served Borussia Dortmund as a valuable role model,"
said sporting director Michael Zorc. "We're very pleased that he's decided to remain with the club until 2015 and end his incredible career as a BVB player."
