Chelsea have agreed a deal for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy after matching his £8million release clause.
Jose Mourinho is keen to add another forward to his squad following Fernando Torres' move to AC Milan on a two-year deal
and the Portuguese boss decided to look at their West London rivals' striker.
Remy's release clause was set at £8m for any team in the Champions League, but at £11m for sides in the top six and £15m for any other club.

The 27-year-old is believed to want wages of £80,000-per-week.
Torres' departure leaves Mourinho with just Diego Costa and Didier Drogba as recognised senior strikers.
Chelsea first made contact with Remy's agent when they feared Drogba was injured earlier this month.
Chelsea have contacted QPR about the striker's availability on either a loan or permanent deal.
The former Marseille man's versatility means that he could operate as a central striker or wide in a front three.
Remy has made it clear that he wants to leave Loftus Road for a team playing in Europe's elite competition
and it is believed the French international would jump at the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old impressed on loan at Newcastle United last season, scoring 14 goals in 26 league games.

Transfer news: QPR striker Loic Remy to hold talks with Chelsea

Queens Park Rangers have given permission for wantaway striker Loic Remy to hold talks with Chelsea, according to Sky sources.

The France forward has been seeking a move away from Loftus Road all summer

and was close to joining Liverpool in July, only for the deal to collapse after he flew to the USA for a medical.

Remy, understood only to desire a move to a Champions League club,

turned down the chance to re-join Newcastle on a permanent deal last week, after spending last season at St James’ Park on loan.

He has featured in both Rangers two Premier League games so far this season, and manager Harry Redknapp has been keen for him to stay,

but Remy is set to move across west London and compete with Diego Costa and Didier Drogba.

Should the deal go through, Remy will replace Spain striker Fernando Torres, who is to undergo a medical at AC Milan on Saturday after agreeing terms on a two-year deal.

Rangers, meanwhile, are set to sign former Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra, who will also undergo a medical in west London on Saturday.

Transfer news: Chelsea face competition from Arsenal for QPR striker Loic Remy



​Arsenal have joined Chelsea in triggering Loic Remy's release clause, according to some Sky sources.

The QPR striker appeared to be on his way to Stamford Bridge when Chelsea agreed to pay the £10.5million fee set

out in his contract, but Remy could now be left with a choice to make between the London rivals.

Another source claims Arsenal, who this week lost Olivier Giroud until the New Year, are interested but have not yet gone as far as matching the fee.

Either way, the latest development means Remy's move to Chelsea may no longer be the formality it seemed

when he was pulled out of the QPR team to play Sunderland and given permission to discuss terms.

Speaking before that game Rangers boss Harry Redknapp said: "The deal looks like it is probably done so I had to make a change in the team.

"He didn't refuse to play or anything, but speaking to him it is difficult. If he is moving and signing for another team, it’s difficult to go out there and get your head around playing."

Mourinho has identified the France international as a replacement for Milan-bound Fernando Torres


and insists there are no concerns over the fitness of a player who failed a Liverpool medical earlier this summer.

He said: “We are trying to get Remy. The information we have from specialists in different areas is that he doesn’t have a problem to play football.”

Arsenal's interest, meanwhile, comes despite Arsene Wenger's claim he is not desperate to cover Giroud's absence with a new signing.

Wenger talked up his current forward options ahead of the weekend and said: “If we buy somebody, somebody will go because we have too many players.

We have too many strikers."
