Transfer news: West Brom are trying to arrange a short-term deal with Shola Ameobi Sky sources report West Brom are in talks with former Newcastle man Shola Ameobi over a short term contract. The 33-year-old forward has been a free agent since leaving Turkish side Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor in December. And the Baggies are now closing in on a deal with Ameobi as manager Tony Pulis looks to add to his options up front.
Saido Berahino has scored 14 times this season but Brown Ideye has been on target just twice since joining from Dynamo Kiev for £10m in the summer while Georgios Samaras appears set to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Ameobi managed 79 goals in 397 appearances during his 14 years at Newcastle and also played under Pulis when he was loaned to Stoke in 2008, making six appearances.
He moved to second-tier Turkish side Gaziantep on a one-year deal in August following his release by Newcastle, but left after just four months in December.
