West Brom sign Jonny Evans from Manchester United

West Bromwich Albion have secured the services of Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

The 27-year-old centre-half has agreed a four-year deal and joins Albion after making 198 appearances in all competitions for United.

The deal for the Northern Ireland international will cost the Baggies an initial £6m, rising to £8m with add-ons.

"This is a great signing for the club," manager Tony Pulis said.

"Jonny brings a lot of experience and will be a big player for us. He's a player I've been watching for some time."

Evans' move may now pave the way for Joleon Lescott to depart the Hawthorns for Aston Villa.

Villa have been looking for another option at the heart of their defence but the Baggies will not let Lescott go until they have acquired a replacement.

And the man they have in mind is Evans, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a trophy-laden nine-year spell with United, winning the Premier League title on three occasions.

Having come through the ranks at the club, he was given his first-team debut in 2007 and has gone on to make 196 appearances, scoring seven goals.

West Brom turned their attention to Evans after Tottenham centre-back Federico Fazio failed to agree a contract during a day of talks last week.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed he is not trying to sign Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

The Toffees have been linked with the Northern Ireland international in several national newspapers, including the Daily Mail and the Guardian, but Martinez says there is no truth in the rumours.

Jonny Evans appears to be inching closer to the exit door at Manchester United after falling down the pecking order under Louis van Gaal.

The Northern Ireland international has been linked with West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham and Stoke but the central defender is reportedly interested in a move to Everton, according to Sky sources.

Evans came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and has played over 200 matches since breaking into United's first team nine years ago.

However, the 27-year-old has yet to figure this season while a combination of injuries and a six-match spitting ban saw him limited to just 17 appearances last season.

WBA AGREE EVANS FEE

It seems as though Tony Pulis will get his man as we understand West Brom have agreed a fee for Jonny Evans with Manchester United and the player is due to have a medical tonight.

That move is expected to see Joleon Lescott join Aston Villa for an initial fee of £1m with a potential for another £1m in add-ons.
