Manchester United suffered another injury blow when Anthony Martial was a late absentee from their Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland. The France international suffered an apparent hamstring problem during the warm-ups at Old Trafford and had to be replaced by youngster Marcus Rashford up front. Rashford's debut proved to be one to remember, with the 18-year-old scoring twice as United beat the Danish champions 5-1 to move into the last-16 6-3 on aggregate.
Martial's injury left United with only six substitutes on their bench and an inexperienced line-up that saw Joe Riley brought in for his full debut at left-back.
Riley made his first appearance off the bench when United beat Shrewsbury 3-0 in the FA Cup on Monday, coming on for the injured Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Their defence also included youngster Guillermo Varela at right-back and Michael Carrick alongside Daley Blind in the middle. United were without more than a dozen players through injury for the second-leg clash as they overcame a 2-1 deficit from last week's game in Denmark.
Added to their injury list, United were also missing Adnan Januzaj, who is cup-tied in Europe after featuring for Borussia Dortmund during the group stage of the competition.
But there was one boost for Louis van Gaal with Argentina defender Marcos Rojo coming off the bench in the latter stages for his first senior appearance since the end of November.
