Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan is thought to be close to agreeing a new three-year contract following talks with the club. The 23-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season after he was given a one-year extension due to a long-term knee problem.Flanagan spent 20 months out of action due to the injury but has played in five games since January, including the recent Premier League wins against Manchester City and Crystal Palace. Although he has only made 47 senior appearances since first breaking through almost five years ago, manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on the full-back.
He has expressed a desire to retain Flanagan for the long term and the player's representative is understood to have held positive discussions with Anfield chief executive Ian Ayre.
Flanagan, who has been capped once by England, may even sign before Sunday's trip to Southampton.
Earlier this month, Klopp said: "Of course, Flanno is our boy and we'll do everything we can to come together. Hopefully in the end it's a positive solution for both sides."
